McCree stood until he wasn't alone, until another early riser was on the wall, looking out towards where Deadlock Gorge had been, towards the rising sun. McCree waited, braced for a break in the silence, chatter or questions or anything, but the stranger stood just a little out of comfortable speaking distance in the rising dawn and watched the sunrise. The silence went on unbroken as the Opinicon slowly came to life, the sun broke one golden shining line above the eastern hills, and McCree waited to know what he needed to do. Waited to know what he needed.

Other than Hanzo.

He would look for Hanzo, but he didn't know what to do if he found him.

Had no idea what to do if he didn't.

The wall beside Genji and the ceiling and floor all around him were painted with a spiderweb of black cracks. A few chunks of adobe dropped from the ceiling, bounced off Genji's sides as he gathered his long body up and around himself, the arcs and curved of his long body crumpling and spilling over themselves, covering his face at times, tripping him up as he tried to gather his own long body in his foreclaws.

"You told me he was impulsive," McCree remarked. "Amazing he doesn’t sound like an accordion while he scrunches up like that, say, you sure he'd have been much help back at Hanamura running things I mean..." 

Hanzo abruptly uncoiled himself and thumped his head flat into McCree’s belly, the long arcs of his body opening and twining around McCree's fingers. 

 McCree forgot what, if anything, he wanted to say.

Fourteen dead children stood at his back, fourteen tough little half-wild horses, his brave little one at his side. McCree was alone and could finally finish what he’d started all those years ago.

Glass crashed against stone far down the gorge, and first one gigantic footstep, then another, and more, and more, until the sound became an even, regular stride. At a distance, echoing through the rain, the sound made McCree feel seventeen years old again.

He stood his ground, and the thing he’d brought home to kill raked its way through a narrowing channel of rock towards him. It had been a good choice, McCree thought. This gorge had been a good choice. The winding path choked Omukade's movement, narrowed limited its ability to turn back or lunge forward. Omukade should have stuck to the high ground, flanked around above the cave mouth, but McCree had guessed Omukade would be too hungry to be cunning. Omukade would take the shortest path towards the pearl, and that path included Deadlock Gorge. 

Around the first bend in the gorge walls, the rain began to glow a muddy orange.
