Repost from old blog, requested by sleepy anon ~Bambi
The cold autumn night air prickled at your skin as your hot tears trickled down your cheeks falling to the puddles at your feet. It was bucketing down rain, and here you stood on a bridge, all alone, in the middle of Kyoto. You and your boyfriend had come here to photograph and experience the beautiful reds and golds of the new season, and what better and romantic way to experience it than to view it amongst a historical city.
You were particularly excited, things had been tense between you both in the last month. You were a talented and published manga author and artist, you made huge sums of money per issue but in order to meet your deadlines you often worked ridiculous hours throughout the day and into the evening. You didn’t think it’d put a strain on your relationship, you worked extra hard to make sure his meals were prepared for when he left for work and came home, and he certainly never mentioned being upset over you making more than he did.
But then He’d started staying at work late, he’d come home at odd hours in the evening and he’d barely look at you never mind touch you, always claiming he was too tired. You were beginning to fear he was losing interest in you, but then he mentioned this trip and your heart raced thinking this was his way of making things up to you, he hinted at something important he had to tell you and you of course assumed he was going to propose to you.
It made sense, the late hours he was ‘working’, how ‘tired’ he always was, why he planned this trip to such a romantic setting… You weren’t expecting him to dump you. And yet here you were. He broke up with you reasoning that he thought if he did it in such a pleasant location it’d soften the blow. It didn’t, he’d been out cheating on you, partying, enjoying himself whilst you waited patiently at home foolishly thinking the best of him. You grabbed your things and left the hotel.
You dried your eyes on your sleeve and hiccuped out another sob before taking a swig from your can of beer and tossing it away without a care. Drunk, freezing, and heartbroken, you wandered off blindly in search of the train station. As you walked you staggered from side to side, dragging your small suitcase behind you and waving your umbrella about not caring anymore if you got wet, so caught up in your heartbroken revelry that you didn’t even pay mind to the fact that the city lights were growing thin, and the trees thicker.
You didn’t notice the large red archway you passed through, or the numerous tags lined with red string warning to turn back. You kept going, and going, until you found yourself bumping into what you first assumed in your drunk stupor was a giant statue. Until it moved…
Your gaze couldn’t make out much beyond a certain point in the dark, each time you tried to focus a droplet of rain would land in your eyes making you rub them out of irritation. You didn’t have to focus for much longer though as a loud clap of thunder sounded and lighting illuminated the blackened sky, you could see the colossal and fearsome beast before you.
Ocean blue scales, gigantic claws, a long serpent like body, jagged horns, razor like teeth, and glowing golden eyes. An enormous dragon glared down at you, snarling.
You looked up at the creature, seemingly frightened as you dropped your things… You began to laugh hysterically before hugging his leg, “ooooohhhh what a big pretty boy you are!!! What kind of a lizard are you?!!” You hiccuped nuzzling his smooth scales.
The dragon sat there looking at you confused… it leaned its head down to be eye level with you, though all you saw was its very squishy looking nose. He snarled and roared at you, opening his maw wide for you to see all his teeth. It was almost deafening, like being amongst the clouds as thunder clashed all around you. Even still you didn’t flinch beyond closing your eyes as his hot breath blew back your hair from your face.
You suddenly reached forward and poked his nose making him stop and stagger back, “boop!” You giggled. He looked at you perplexed, before trying to instead shake you off of his leg. It wasn’t hard, he just had to move and you fell face first into the mud. “Owww!! What was that for?” You whined sitting up before squealing in surprise as he picked you up in his claws. “You’re awfully brave for being so fragile… don’t you know you’re made mostly of water?…” he growled.
It took your intoxicated mind a moment to realise he’d literally just spoken to you, his voice sounded heavenly, “well, I wouldn’t say that. I’d say I’m 90% alcohol at this point.” You hiccuped and giggled before suddenly resuming crying. “I don’t care if you eat me…” you sniffled hugging his clawed finger, you were so small in his paws grasp, “I’ve clearly lost my mind, I’m talking to a giant blue lizard, and my boyfriend dumped me.” You sobbed.
The dragon blinked and held you a little more gently as he felt your warm tears against his skin, “I’m a dragon, not a lizard. You’re not insane either, I’m very real.” He hissed, “And just because he left you doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world… I hardly think it’s a reason for you to give up on living entirely…” he said as he lowered you back to the ground setting you carefully on a large rock.
You looked up at him with tears streaming down your mud covered face as the rain soaked your hair and clothes. “He was supposed to be the one though, h-he was supposed to marry me!” You sobbed rubbing your face only making yourself look like more of a mess. “Was I not good enough? I know I work ridiculous hours for my job but I always tried to give him my attention, I always kept the house clean, I always made his meals, I did everything a good future wife is supposed to do.” You cried, “wh-why did he leave me?…”
The dragon sat there awkwardly, he couldn’t help but feel pity looking at you. If he had any intentions of eating you they were gone now. He sighed lifting you back up in his claws, “where do you live mortal? I’ll return you to your home.” He asked tilting his head. You frowned hugging his scaley paw before rattling off your address, “it’s in Tokyo. But it’s too far to walk to and I cant find the train station…” you mumbled. “I won’t be walking.” He said standing up and stretching, still holding you in his claws.
“How’re we supposed to get there then?” You slurred as you began to feel groggy, he was holding you so gently and you were surprisingly comfy. “Fly.” He replied simply as he began to walk a little ways away from the trees. It was a surprisingly difficult task for him with only three legs available now but he managed. “Ohhh yeah, you’re a dragon so you can fly… how can you do that anyway with no wings?” You asked confused but he simply grunted in response as he walked.
As he carried you into a clearing you blinked as you spotted several large red archways surrounding a cave, “do you live here big guy?…” you mumbled. He looked down at you before nodding, “I do.” He replied softly, Or as soft as a giant dragon could manage. “It’s not very well hidden..” you said looking at it, “I’m drunk and I found it.” You hiccuped. “Where else is there in your mortal realm for a creature like me?” He asked as he placed you on his head between his horns.
Immediately as he sat you there you slid right down and onto his snout. With the rain and over all how wet you were he was very slippery. You found yourself looking directly into his eyes. Giant firey orbs with cat like slits in place of pupils. You stared back at them without a hint of fear, “I dunno, you could live with me… once my boyfr-… my ex comes gets his stuff… I’ll be all alone… it’ll be safer for you, nobody will find you there, it’s dry, it’s got a heating system. And I have a big comfy bed.” You rattled off not even considering how he’d manage to fit into your apartment but given how intoxicated you were it was no wonder it didn’t cross your mind.
He looked at you for a moment longer before carefully picking you back up and holding you in both of his front paws, “I think I’ll accept your offer… what is your name mortal?…” he asked, “y/n l/n! Manga artist extraordinaire!” You blurt out before giggling. He looked at you before chuckling with a heavenly laugh, “It is nice to meet you. I am Hanzo Shimada.” He hummed. “It’s nice to meet ya big guy.” You smiled up at him before shivering as you hugged your now drenched coat closer to your body.
Hanzo looked at you with concern in his eyes, in that moment of agreement a bond had been struck. And suddenly his heart was heavy with worry for you, “let’s get you back to your dwellings else the chill might steal you from me…” he hummed. You weren’t entirely sure what he meant by that, steal you from him?… you didn’t have time to ponder either as he leaned down and opened his mouth picking you up by your clothes gently. “W-woah! What are you doing?!” You blurted out before attempting to wiggle free.
“Hush or I’ll drop you.” He said between clenched teeth. You did as you were told now only just beginning to sober up as the reality of this insane situation dawned on you. He suddenly leaned back on his haunches and with a powerful push he launched himself into the air.
You looked down at the sight before you as it appeared through the clouds, it was breathtaking. You’d wandered quite far from Kyoto but from here you could see it in the distance, and as he flew over it you got an even better view. The ancient city glistening with rain and lantern light, bathed in a cascade of autumn colours it looked like a page right out of a fairytale. You laughed and held out your arms as best you could as Hanzo glided right over it, not at all afraid of being seen. The cold wind on your damp body sent shivers up and down your skin but the thrill of the experience made you ignore it.
As the great beast carried you away from the city and towards Tokyo, you took a mental note of what brand of beer that was that lead you to this, because if this was you simply being drunk, it was incredible.
…
You groaned covering your eyes as the morning light danced across your face. You had a monumental hangover and the fact you spent almost all of last night crying meant you were very dehydrated. “Water….” you rasped out loud to yourself.
After a moment you managed to will yourself into sitting up… you remembered last night, your boyfriend dumping you, you remembered getting drunk and wandering blindly off into the woods… you remembered a dragon named Hanzo… For a moment you thought it was all just a dream, you were clean for one thing. But then you noticed… you weren’t in your hotel in Kyoto. You were in your bed, in your little apartment, in Tokyo…
A bead of sweat trickled down your brow. You must have made it home on your own then, you had to, the alternative was literally impossible on all accounts. You sighed sliding out of bed, in search of water and your phone… your phone. It was in your bag. You tried to remember the last place you saw it, but all you could remember was dropping it in the mu-
You froze as your foot collided with something. You looked down to see your bag and umbrella sitting beside your bed, both caked in semi dried mud. You just stared at it for a moment longer until a low vibrating hum caught your attention. You jumped and began unzipping pockets until you found your phone, almost out of battery but dry as a bone thankfully.
Hundreds of missed calls and texts filled the screen, most from your publisher and retailers as to be expected, you had just released a new book after all. But there were heaps from your now ex-boyfriend, some along the lines of “I’m sorry but no hard feelings right?” To others that made your stomach twist into knots, “it’s your own fault for not being a normal girlfriend and just doing the housework so you could focus on me instead of your crappy mangas. I’ll come to pick my stuff up when I get back.”
You held back a sob and scowled replying only with, “your shit will be in a box by the dumpster where it and you belong.” You hit send and proceeded to block him before getting up and wobbling out of your bedroom. You froze at the sight before you as you opened the door to the living room.
There was treasure. Everywhere.
Stacks of gold sat piled high in every nook and cranny, ancient chests filled with rare texts and gems, artefacts that alone would cost fortunes, ancient armour of all different nationalities, and heaps of weapons and seemingly mythological items. “…d-did I rob a museum last night?!” You blurted out as you scanned the sight before you.
You stood there for what must have been 30 minutes before finally coaxing yourself to move closer and inspect it all. As you took a step forward a loud knock sounded, not from your front door but the balcony sliding door instead. You jumped out of your skin and turned to face the curtain blocking the door, covering your mouth as you did so as a scream ripped from your throat. “Y/n? My lady?! Is everything okay in there?” That voice…
Holding your breath you walked closer to the curtain, one step. Two steps… you grabbed the fabric and hesitated for a brief moment before ripping it back to see a huge pair of yellow eyes looking at you. “Oh good morning!” Hanzo chirped. You closed the curtain.
You just stood there in shock trying to figure out if your brain had finally snapped before you heard a knock at the door again, softer this time. You cautiously peered around it and… your face went bright red.
Right there, outside your sliding door, was a shirtless, very attractive man. At least that’s what it looked like at first, you noticed the horns on his head, the scales on his collarbone and cheeks, and the huge tail swishing behind him. He looked at you confused with those golden eyes as if wondering why you were behaving so strangely… At least he was wearing trousers you reasoned…
He tapped on the door again, “I.. Accidentally locked myself out. Please let me back in.” It began to dawn on you that all of this stuff, all of this was his. The memories of last night had drifted back and you realised you had invited him to come and live with you… “u-um…” you mumbled before unlocking the door.
He slid it open and stepped inside carrying something on his back, a bow and quiver, and a very pretty parcel. “Is everything alright?..,” he asked tilting his head, you noticed in this form his voice sounded much different, nowhere near as loud or as ethereal. Even still, it sounded handsome, and he looked very handsome himself. “Y-yeah it is um…” you say looking at him before glancing at all the stuff scattered about.
He looked at you then at it, “oh forgive me! I was in a hurry to move it all and didn’t think much of placement, allow me.” He said snapping his fingers. You watched as a giant chest appeared on the far wall by your bookshelf, its lid opened up and suddenly all of his belongings minus the little parcel on his back, disappeared into it. Within the blink of an eye your apartment returned to its original state, not a coin or gemstone in sight.
“Wow…” was all you managed out before looking up at him. He smiled at you, he looked very pleased with himself, “I… need coffee..” you said you walking to the kitchen. He tilted his head and followed after you swishing his tail happily, “what’s that?” He asked watching you begin to mull about making yourself the caffeinated beverage. “Liquid happiness.” You replied, “and right now liquid sanity.” You say groaning and rubbing your temples.
Hanzo frowned immediately noticing you were in discomfort. You blinked and looked up before squealing in shock as you noticed he’d somehow appeared right in front of you. “Relax.” He crooned planting a kiss to your forehead. You heard a soft bell like chime as his lips touched your skin, and just like that, your headache was gone.
You stood there in silence, his strong hands gently holding you by your arms as his lips trailed from your forehead to your hair. He sniffed at you and purred softly, “it took a bit of effort to get you to clean last night. That stuff you had in your bath chamber smells really good.” He whispered.
It took a few seconds for that sentence to sink in, “you… you bathed me?..” you whispered. “Mhm, you’re my human now, it’s my duty to meet your ne-” he was cut off as you staggered away, “YOU SAW ME NAKED?!” You blurted out. He recoiled slightly before folding his arms and pouting, “well what did you expect me to do? I couldn’t just leave you drenched and caked in mud! You’d get si-” he was cut off as you suddenly sneezed. “Sick…” he sighed stepping forward.
You backed up instinctively making him stop and tilt his head, “hm, sober you is a lot more standoffish than drunk you… I’m just checking your temperature.” He said stepping closer again, this time trapping you between him and the counter. “I-I’m fine, it’s just a blocked n-” you paused as he placed his hand to your forehead, you could see and feel his claws, how smooth and soft his skin felt, and you could very much see his naked and well toned chest right in front of you.
You shyly attempted to avert your gaze when you spotted a very beautiful tattoo sleeve stretching from his left shoulder to his wrist. Two beautiful blue dragons that looked just like him dancing amongst thundering storm clouds. He suddenly pulled back and smiled, seemingly satisfied, “you’re a little warm, but you should bundle up today my lady.” He hummed. You stood there broken from his new title for you. Did he?… did he really just call you that?
“Y/n is fine.” You say softly as you heard the kettle click off. “It’s a little informal is it not?” He asked watching you finish making your coffee, “I guess but…” you rubbed your head before realising you hadn’t even offered him anything to eat, “um… would you like some breakfast?” You asked. Immediately his tail began to swish, “hm, there’s no forests nearby but I can make the trip to hunt us something.” He said rubbing his beard.
“You… you Wah?…” you said feeling far too tired to deal with this. “Well what do you expect then? There’s no where nearby to hunt so I’ll have to-” he froze watching you open the fridge to reveal it was full of ingredients. “What kind of magic portal is that?!” He said abruptly. “It’s not magic, it’s a fridge. I buy stuff and put it in there to keep it fresh.” You say as you began to pick out what you’d need.
“It sounds magical to me.” He said watching you with interest as you pulled out a stack of bacon still in its plastic packaging. He moved in closer smelling blood, eyes slitting like a cats and the fur on his tail bristling. As he got closer he blinked and began to poke at the plastic wrap, “what sorcery is this?! Why can’t I get to it?! I can see it but this is in the way!” He whined.
You looked back at him and giggled seeing him eyeing out the bacon suspiciously, “it’s plastic. It keeps things fresh… how long have you been living in that cave?…” you asked as you began to cook. He frowned and rubbed his head, “hm… how old am I again?…” he paused, “a few thousand years, sometimes I dip between realms but. That was my shrine. Centuries ago people used to worship dragons. They didn’t fear us. But over time… people just, forgot.” He sighed.
A sad frown crossed your brow, he must have been so lonely but, the way he said it, “are there other dragons?” You asked as you cut open the bacon and placed a few thick slices in the pan with the eggs making them sizzle and pop. “Hm? Of course there are! What did you think I was the only one?” He chuckled, “there’s hundreds of dragons. But they all seem to prefer other realms to this one, I don’t understand why, I think it’s nice here.” He said moving closer loving the scent of the meal you were cooking him.
“Really? You think this mess of a planet is nice?..” you sighed. He nodded now suddenly behind you. He rested his chin on your head and held you gently, “Mhm, both me and my little brother love it, there’s beauty here unmatched by the other realms. I haven’t seen him in a while, but, I feel no distress from him, so I know he’s okay.” He whispered before looking at you and your very red face. “Are you alright? You’re very warm? Oh no are you running a fever?!” He said feeling your forehead again.
You suddenly took off and disappeared into the bedroom before returning with one of your ex’s shirts. You’d have to get the dragon some of his own clothes but he was driving you insane walking around topless. “Please put this on!!” You said before returning to cooking. He sniffed at it before hissing, “ugh it smells revolting!” He growled.
“It’s a clean shirt, I use the same detergent on my clothes to-” he cut you off by throwing it to the ground, “no, whoever wore it was a disgusting person. It reeks of their stench.” He huffed. You paused and picked it up. It smelt clean, could he perhaps smell more than what a normal human could? “What do I smell like?” You asked curiously. He looked at you for a moment before gently taking the cloth from your hands, “don’t touch that, it’s too vile to be held by such delicate skin…” he whispered as he leaned down and pressed his face into your neck making you shiver.
He inhaled deeply before smiling as his tail swished, “you smell like autumn berries.” He took another sniff, “and orange blossom.” He hummed standing back up right, “are you sure you’re okay your face is very red my lady.” He said concerned. You might as well of been running a fever, you were so flustered your face felt like it was on fire, “I’m f-fine really.” You said turning and finishing your cooking. You dished it up onto two plates but before you could even tuck into yours Hanzo grabbed his and wolfed it down in seconds before standing there with stars in his eyes, “this… is… so GOOD!!” He chirped. It was becoming apparent very fast that he had a much bigger appetite than yours, though, he liked it so you weren’t really complaining, “um… thank you.” You blushed a little.
You quietly pushed your plate closer to him, “I’ll just have cereal.” You sighed. He looked at you confused before graciously taking your offering, “what’s… cereal?” He asked tilting his head. “Oh boy…” you whispered.
…
After breakfast and watching Hanzo practically devour half of your fridge all the while praising your cooking, you went about getting ready for the day as best you could with a literal dragon following you around like a very curious kitten. He was intrigued by everything in your apartment, you had to practically pounce on him to stop him from attacking your tv as it turned onto a scene from a crappy 80s action movie.
He found particular interest in your video games as well as the many comic books and mangas you had on your coffee table. But over all he seemed to enjoy watching you the most. Wherever you went in your apartment he was close behind. And as you pulled on your shoes and picked up your purse he began to follow you right out the door, “Woah! woah! Woah! You can’t come with me. Stay here and be good. I need to get groceries and some clothes for you.” You sighed.
Hanzo stood there confused before literally pouting, he had no right being that cute, “What?! Why can’t I come? What if someone hurts you? What then?” He whined. “Because of those.” You pointed at his horns. “and that.” His tail, “and these.” His claws, “And these!” You say gesturing to his chest making him blush with embarrassment. “fine. But.. don’t be gone too long or I’ll come looking!” He huffed. You rubbed your temples and sighed, he was like a scaly puppy doubling as an unfairly sexy man, “okay okay. I’ll be home in 2 hours.”
His tail swished slightly but he didn’t argue, “you promise?…” he asked softly. You nodded, “I promise big guy.” You smiled up at him, his heart thudded loudly in his chest, you had a beautiful smile, “oka- Oh wait!” He rushed off to the kitchen and returned with the little parcel. He untied the ribbon revealing a very pretty haori jacket. A soft coral with red and orange maple leaves at the bottom hem and sleeves, “your coat got really dirty and it’s cold out today so… here.” He said sliding it around you gently.
You looked at the beautiful garment and blushed up at him, “Han I can-” he cut you off by taking your hands in his, it was then you noticed how mindful of his claws touching your skin he really was, he was so careful. “Please accept it! It’s the least I can do for you picking me!” He said swishing his tail. “Picking you?” You asked confused, “to be your dragon of course, you let me into your home so fearlessly. It’s my duty to be your guardian!” He said proudly. You blinked and felt your face growing hotter by the second.
Before you had a chance to reply the neighbouring apartment door suddenly clicked open. You swiftly pushed Hanzo back into the doorway giving him a hug, “I won’t be gone long! Please behave yourself!” You rambled out before closing your door incase someone saw him. You sighed before hearing the ruckus from your neighbors apartment, then after a moment she stepped out slamming the door in the same relieved fashion you had.
She was an odd girl but nice, you’d only heard her speak a few times but you believed she was Swiss from her accent. Long blond hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. She had the unicorn affect on the locals, she stuck out like a very attractive sore thumb and her awkwardness didn’t help either. She groaned rubbing her head, she clearly hadn’t noticed you yet, “ughhhh what am I going to do? How can he devour so much and just keep going?” She mumbled before jumping out of her skin as she spotted you. “Hi.” You said waving making her face go red before taking off down the stairs. “Bye then.” You giggled following in the same direction.
Hanzo frowned looking at the door… he decided to go exploring your apartment whilst he waited for you.
…
You’d had plenty of awkward experiences leading up to and during your adult life, but the looks you got walking through the store to the cash register with two baskets and a shopping cart full of groceries was definitely amongst some of the worst experiences. As the clerk gave you the side eye whilst he scanned through multiples of every item you wanted to just shrink into a ball then and there.
Whilst you were by no means short on money you couldn’t bring yourself to look at the total price once everything was bagged up. You felt your very soul began to cry as you realised at this rate you’d have to start extreme couponing. You sighed and began putting your bags into the cart to leave when you noticed the person behind you in line had started loading up their groceries, it was your neighbour… and she had two carts and a basket of groceries, almost all the same items as you too. The clerk looked like he was about to cry.
You blinked as your eyes locked with the young woman, her face was flushed red, you could very much relate to her embarrassment right now. You quickly shuffled off outside after collecting your things, and after a bit of effort you managed to get it all on your scooter before zipping off back to your apartment.
…
“I’m home!” You called out as you stepped inside. No answer… you frowned and set all the groceries in the kitchen before cautiously searching the house, “Hanzo?..” you called out as you entered your art studio… there he sat, on the floor, looking at all your work with awe. He jumped a little hearing the door creak open before looking back at you and smiling, “did you draw all this?” He asked. You nodded and smiled, “I did… It’s.. my job.” You say looking at all the artwork strewn about your workspace. “It’s beautiful.” He smiled before standing up and walking to you.
You blushed as he felt your forehead, still concerned about your health, “you’re a lot warmer now… you should rest.” He frowned. “I-I’m fine. I need to put the groceries away, and I got you some things.” You smiled shyly. His tail swished in a rather adorable fashion, excited like a puppy, but casual like a cat. “Oh??” He said tilting his head making you giggle.
“Yeah, come on, it’s in the kitchen.” You hummed stepping back and walking out with him following close behind. He immediately began curiously inspecting the groceries, not really understanding what most of it was but he liked the smells, you giggled as he found the bag with the soap and immediately began sneezing from all the fruity scents.
After helping you pack away the food you picked up a bag filled with clothes and handed them to him, “go try these on, I’ll… need to cut holes in them for your tail but just try them on and see how they fit first.” You smiled up at him. He nodded taking bag and inspecting the clothes. They were from a higher end store, street wear designed to last etc. He reached in and felt the fabric before purring seemingly satisfied with your selection for him, “I’ll try them on at once!” He chirped and began to strip his trousers off then and there. “IN THE BEDROOM! IN THE BEDROOM!!” You blurted out covering your eyes.
He paused and tilted his head confused, obviously not understanding why you were so flustered but he did as he was told and wandered past you to the bedroom. You sighed relieved before picking up the last bag and walking to the bathroom. You set down a new toothbrush for Hanzo, and next to it some nice bath stuff for him to try. You weren’t sure if he even needed to bathe but you thought the gesture would please the spirit greatly.
After emptying the bags contents you hummed and returned to the kitchen to start cooking lunch as well as begin prepping dinner, the pork would have to marinade and a few of the vegetables would need to pickle for the toppings. You figured a light lunch would be best given you were planning to make ramen for dinner, but given the dragons appetite you threw that idea out the window fast and instead opted to make burgers for lunch. One for yourself, and 5 for him. You shuddered remembering the look on the clerks face as you placed several bags of brioche buns up onto the register, -how dare I make him do his job after all.- you thought to yourself bitterly.
A loud thump sounded suddenly from the bedroom, than another, followed by almost dog like whining. You blinked and turned the stove off before rushing into the room to find poor Hanzo twisted up on the floor. His tail in a knot, his horns stuck in a shirt he’d managed to get on but couldn’t get off. “Would you like some help?…” you say awkwardly. “…please…” he whined in embarrassment. You giggled and untied his tail before helping him to his feet and plucking the shirt off. He stood there red faced and his chest puffed out with an adorably handsome pout, “I didn’t panic. It just got stuck and I tripped over my tail!” He huffed.
You giggled and smiled gently placing your hand on his cheek, it felt weird, but nice. Human but, not human, warm but cool, rough but, soft. He looked at you for a moment before leaning into your touch and purring softly. “Would you like me to help you try on another one?” You asked smiling up at him. “…y-yes please.” He nodded shyly.
…
The day drifted by peacefully. After helping Hanzo get dressed properly you ate lunch, he helped you pack up your ex’s belongings all the while holding his nose or growling at the objects in disgust. He took great pleasure in dropping it all by the dumpster. And as the afternoon turned to evening the two of you sat by the heater eating dinner whilst watching a movie. The dragon seemed awestruck by the ‘magic’ pictures, he almost forgot to eat his food as he watched the animations dance on the screen.
Gradually into the film you found yourself curling into him further and further, your hand gently stroking his tail, the scales felt so smooth and cool to the touch. And your head gradually beginning to grow heavy as sleep drew in. You yawned and glanced at the time before getting up and stretching, “um… do you want me to show you how to use the shower?” You asked before remembering he himself had bathed you earlier whilst you were unconscious. Before you could correct your question his tail perked up and swished, “oh? Do you wish to bathe again?” He asked looking up at you from where he lounged.
“well, yeah but I wanted to know if you knew how to use the shower on your o-h Hanzo put me down!!” You squealed as the dragon stood and lifted you over his shoulder before striding briskly to the bathroom. You squirmed and wiggled helplessly in his grasp until finally he set you down beside the tub. You looked up at him annoyed to which he only smiled and swished his tail looking pleased with himself. “Would you like me to strip you again or are you just going to stand there?” He asked tilting his head. Your face flushed red remembering he’d already seen you naked. “I-I don’t need your help to bathe!” You pouted.
He looked at you confused, “Then why did you ask if I knew how to bathe?” He said softly. “So you could wash yourself!!” You blurted out. “I know how to wash myself. You splash in the water until the dirt is gone…” he said deadpanned. You looked at him perplexed, “splash?… do you even use soap?…” you asked. “Soap? Is that the nice smelly stuff I used on your hair?” He asked pointing to the shampoo bottle. A wave of relief flooded through you as you realised he hadn’t used body wash on you at least. “Kind of…” you sighed before turning and filling the tub with hot water. “I guess… I’ll have to show you how to-” a brilliant blue light suddenly flashed and illuminated the bathroom.
You rubbed your eyes almost blinded from it, after blinking to clear your vision you staggered back a little to see the handsome man you’d so quickly grown used to be replaced with a very long, lion sized, blue dragon. Hanzo sat amongst his now discarded clothes, he looked up at you swishing his tail before climbing into the tub and purring as the hot water touched his scales. “Aren’t you going to join me my lady?” He asked as he splashed his tail a little. You looked at him amazed, you’d almost forgotten he wasn’t a human. “U-um yeah. Gimme a second.” You replied before turning away and sheepishly removing your clothes.
After a few moments youd managed to strip down to just your underwear, you had no clue why you were so shy, he clearly wasn’t human and he’d seen you naked before already. Even still, something about him made you feel things, things you hadn’t even felt about your now ex-boyfriend. “Do you want help?…” Hanzos deep voice rang out from behind you. “N-no I’m fine! It’s j-just chilly is all!” You said flustered before swiftly removing your underwear and bra before turning to face him. The dragons eyes widened and the pupils narrowed to thin needle like slits. It was tense, silent, until he suddenly spoke again, “divine… come to me…” he whispered reaching his tail out to loop around you.
Your face felt like it was on fire at that comment. You shivered a little feeling the wet fur and scales of his tail gently glide around your waist, your ex had never called you that before, he was never so appreciative of your cooking, he never complimented your work… “Ah wait!” You suddenly gasped making him recoil a little. He blinked watching you grab a bath bomb before you climbed into the water and sat down, “here I thought you’d like this.” You smiled up at him before dropping it into the bath.
Immediately his scales bristled in surprise watching the water bubble and thurn pink, then blue, then purple, “what is this? It smells amazing!” He chimed before suddenly licking the water, “ACK! POISON!!” He hissed. You giggled and pat him gently behind his horns, “not poison you’re not supposed to eat it. It’s to make bath time fun and relaxing.” You smiled. He looked at you perplexed before looking at the water, “it is very pretty now. Youre right this is fun.” He hummed splashing his tail.
You giggled and sighed gently trailing your hand down his neck. His scales were so smooth, and his furry spine was so silky and soft too, “I’m glad.” You hummed before grabbing a bottle of body wash and squirting some onto his back. He looked at you perplexed before purring as you began to wash him, “you do not have to tend to me, I don’t really require it after a-oooh that feels good.” He moaned in delight as you began to massage his fur with your soapy fingers. It made your heart flutter hearing him so pleased, it seemed like anything you did for him, even the smallest task, he was so appreciative for.
You smiled rinsing off the soap loving how it made his scales sparkle. He curled up around you squeezing gently as he purred, loving the warm water being poured over him, “your turn.” He crooned. You looked at him confused before the realisation struck you that he wanted to wash you, “huh? No I can bathe mys-” your protests were cut short and your face grew red as suddenly his form began to glow and twist until that familiar, and now very naked, handsome man sat behind you. His tail and strong beefy arms now holding you snug around your waist.
He rested his chin on your shoulder and hummed contently into your ear, “it’s not like I haven’t done it before.” He whispered sending shivers down your spine and causing your skin to prickle. You glanced back at him shyly, you weren’t sure what to think, you hadn’t been treated like this in a long time, you didn’t want him to worry about cleaning you but at the same time… you didn’t want him to stop, “p-…please be good to me…” you whispered. He smiled fondly at your request and held you closer before he began to bathe you. “I will.” He hummed.
…
Hanzo was true to his word. After bathing you he let you relax against his chest in the water until you both began to prune, and even then you didn’t want to move. It felt like heaven in his embrace, he held you so gently as he told you stories of his life, of other worlds, of his family. But eventually he stood up and lifted you out of the water with him. He wrapped you in a towel and dried you from head to toe, you went to do the same to him but you got half way down his torso before stopping at his… dear lord it was massive.
He seemed amused by how flustered he’d gotten you though he didn’t comment on it beyond a soft hum. After getting dressed and showing him how to use the toothbrush you’d bought him the pair of you wandered to bed for the evening.
After changing the sheets you blinked seeing him shapeshift back into his dragon form, though now he sat less than the height of a house cat. Before you could question why, he piped as he began to knead the plush bedding, “I’ll take up less room in this form.” He purred, “you can sprawl out and rest comfortably at your leisure.”
He said as he migrated up the bed to curl up on a pillow. “Oh… a-are you sure?” You asked watching him pull the corner of the duvet back for you to slide under. “Of course I am.” He replied tilting his head, “it’s just. Are you comfortable in this form? Or any form?” You asked as you climbed into the bed. “I’m a spirit, any physical form I take is one I’m comfortable in.” He hummed as he began to walk in a circle to get comfy. “The only downside of a physical form is I can get hurt. While pain won’t kill me… it still hurts.” He said finally plopping down to settle in. “Which is why I’m greatful for you allowing me sanctum in your dwellings. Such bravery and kindness is uncommon towards dragons, it is only right I repay you by being your guardian and servant.” He said puffing out his chest proudly.
You smiled and gently pat his head, “you don’t have to serve me or guard me either. Your company is more than enough… though… I don’t know how I can afford to continue feeding you without making some changes… and what physical needs to you have? I can’t just keep you cooped up in here.” You sighed. He nuzzled into your hand and chirped, “My hoard alone is worth billions. Use that to pay for my needs. I don’t wish to be a burden.” He said as you began to scratch behind his floppy ears, “I thought dragons didn’t like spending their treasures?” You asked.
“It’s your treasure now too…” he said suddenly taking hold of your hand with his tiny paws, “All of it! I want to share it all with you!” He smiled up at you with almost sparkling eyes. “Wha?…” you replied confused. “Well… consider it my part of our living together?” He said as he climbed into your lap, “you’ve invited me in, it’s the very least I can do as your guardian.” He hummed. You sighed and gently grasped hold of him lifting him up to be eye level with you, “no… I mean what? Why are you doing all this? I mean sure I invited you into my home but being my guardian and servant and all this other stuff seems a bit much don’t you think? I mean… what did I do to deserve your kindness?…”
He smiled and leaned in booping his nose against yours, “What did I do to deserve yours?” He asked, “I like you my lady. Dragons have a good sense of judgment towards others, and I see only good within you. I saw a kind soul who needed my help. So here I am.” He said softly.
“I see…” you said softly still not fully understanding, spirits were mysterious entities and perhaps you’d never fully understand him, but what did he mean by help?… did he think you were helpless?… An alcoholic?… What if he was only here because you were heartbroken, what’d happen when your heart was mended? Would he leave?… The mere thought of him suddenly disappearing left you feeling oddly upset, like a rock had suddenly dropped in your stomach. If only you knew your heart had already mended, if only you knew he’d mended it with his own when you stole it so unwittingly.
He suddenly pawed at your hand, “my lady?…” he asked softly, concern heavy in his heavenly voice. “Hm?… oh I’m fine… just thought I forgot to turn off the stove.” You lied hoping he’d believe, “and seriously… Just call me Y/N.” You sighed as you relaxed into the pillows, you couldn’t tell if you were just worn out from the days events or if maybe the bath was a bit too hot but, you were feeling very warm, and very weak… He furrowed his brow but didn’t question your answer, “it still seems a little informal to address you as such given you’re my human but, as you wish… Y/n.” He said resting his head on your chest.
You smiled tiredly and gently pat him as you closed your eyes, “were well beyond formalities now I think,” You giggled slightly. He chuckled in response and sighed closing his eyes and relaxing as he listened to your heartbeat, “I suppose we are indeed, goodnight, y/n” he whispered. You smiled as you began to drift off, “g’night, Hanzo.”
…
…Hot… whys it so hot… cold… so cold…
You groaned opening your eyes as a soft blue light penetrated the darkness. After a moment it faded away from view and as your eyes adjusted you made out the familiar handsome figure leaning over you with concern on his sharp features, “h-han-” you tried to speak but as you did your voice squeaked before fading. Your throat was scratchy and dry, your nose was blocked, your head felt heavy and yet lite, and your body felt like it was freezing and on fire all at once… Hanzo was right, you were sick after all.
“Shhh… go back to sleep y/n… I’m right here.” He whispered as he helped you take a sip of water before placing a cool cloth on your forehead. You sighed softly feeling your eyelids grow heavy again as he began to wrap his tail around you, the cool scales felt so good against your feverish body, he was regulating your temperature with it. You don’t know if it was the stress of the days events or the bottled up emotions from your breakup that pushed you over the edge, but you began to tear up, you hated feeling sick, you hated being sick.., you reached up and hugged onto him as you began to cry, tired, delirious, uncomfortable, “I’m s-sorry, I should have listened to y-” your voice died once more as your irritated throat silenced you.
Hanzo simply smiled and pulled you closer to his body, he patted your hair and cooed so kindly and comfortingly, “shhh, it’s okay, it’s alright. Don’t apologise y/n, you’re such a selfless person, you went out of your way to look after me, you didn’t have to bring me into your home, you definitely didn’t have to go out while you were unwell just to get me food, but you did.” He whispered, “I’m so greatful for that too… so please don’t apologise… just let me look after you.” He crooned.
You looked up at him still blubbering and now gasping for air as your nose blocked up again, it certainly didn’t help that you were sobbing uncontrollably, “r-really?” You hiccuped. He nodded and pressed his lips to your forehead, “mhm.” He hummed. You froze in response to his touch, it was like his kiss had silenced your sadness in its tracks and you felt a wonderful warmth begin to fill your chest and your tears began to dry up as your whimpering steadied into little more than shaky soft breaths. He smiled and gently tucked a stray hair out of your face, “Shh, that’s enough now blossom… I said that out loud didn’t I?…” he said blushing.
You looked up at him stunned, you didn’t think it possible but your face got even hotter and redder, “you-” you tried to speak but no words came to you, instead you squeaked and shyly hid your face in his chest. He chuckled and smiled widely as he wrapped you in his arms and tail, “it’s true, you’re small and sweet like a flower.” He purred. You could only manage to squeal in response, he had no right making you feel this way, “shh go back to sleep now blossom.” He hummed loving how flustered his new nickname had made you.
…
You’re not entirely sure when sleep had taken you again, but laying in Hanzos strong embrace whilst he rubbed your back and cooed sweet poems to you about a world beyond the one you knew, it eventually found you. A strained groan escaped your lips as you opened your eyes and attempted to yawn without discomfort, an attempt you failed miserably as your throat and ears screamed with an irritable burning pain. You whimpered and coughed, your lungs strained with each harsh wheeze you forced out and desperately attempted to draw in as you struggled to find breath.
After a brief moment it finally stopped and you slumped back into your pillows exhausted. It was only then you noticed how propped up you were now, Hanzo had taken great care to insure you’d be as comfortable as possible during your sickness. You smiled tiredly noticing the damp cloth in your lap that must have fallen off your forehead whilst you were hacking and wheezing your lungs out. He was so good to you… Where was he?
After battling with the plush blankets you managed to free yourself and climb out of the bed. You paused as you reached for your slippers to see Hanzo had taken the liberty of putting a pair of warm socks on your feet. You couldn’t help the small smile that cracked the corners of your dry lips, so dry, you needed water. You slid on your fuzzy slippers and sighed shuffling from the bedroom to the kitchen. Your dragon wasn’t here, the sliding balcony door was closed and locked, the front door was too. You checked the kitchen, your studio, the bathroom… he was gone.
You stood there in the living room, in that moment you’d never felt so alone in the world. Tired, sick, and now heartbroken at the thought he’d abandoned you, you began to cry. It felt like the world was out to get you, it felt like any ounce of happiness you’d previously been afforded had been stripped away, it felt like- A loud banging suddenly sounded from the door, aggressively loud in both sound and manner. But in your sickly delirium you didn’t notice, it was a knock, maybe Hanzo had locked himself out again, maybe he’d just gone for a flight, maybe he still cared.
Without hesitation you rushed to the door as fast as you could manage all the while trying to call out you were coming, but all your strained voice could manage were inaudable squeaks. You grabbed the handle and swung the door back excitedly before freezing to see… Your ex. He stood there holding his belongings, the box was soaked from rain and god knows what was leaking from that dumpster. He glared down at you with venom in his eyes, you stared back feeling vunerable in your current state, but that didn’t hold back the anger burning within you, “you’ve got some nerve you little bitch.” He spat. “What gives you any right to throw me out of my house?! It’s not my fault you were such a pathetic excuse of a girlfriend! You have no right to be bitter!” He shouted.
“I-it’s my apartment! I’m the one who paid for I-” your voice choked out, you swallowed hard and tried to continue, “you’re the one who dumped me in the middle of a strange ci-” you squeaked unable to continue further. It was becoming hard to breath through your nose again as the tears became heavier in your eyes. It was becoming harder to breath in general. You began to wobble in place feeling dizzy as your chest grew tighter and your head lighter, you were going to faint. Your ex smirked seemingly loving how pathetic you appeared trying to stand up for yourself when you could hardly stand at all. He reached out to push you over and out of his way when a delicate pale hand grabbed hold of his and squeezed with imeasurable strength, “She said. It’s her place.” That voice.
You followed the hand with bleary eyes to see your next door neighbour, that young woman with blond hair and blue eyes. “Who the hell do you think you are? This has nothing to do with y-” she cut him off as her free fist swung up, knocking him in the nose hard, breaking it. He staggered back and as he did she suddenly reached behind herself grabbing a huge bag of potato’s from her grocery shopping, with one firm tug she spun around and whacked him square in the chest sending him tumbling back right down the flight of stairs by your apartment door. The final flourish of his humiliation was her picking up the rancid box and tossing it down the stairs after him, “bye bye! Please do get lost!” She called out after him.
She took a moment to fix her hair before sighing as she spotted all the potato’s left scattered about… then you adorably picking them all up for her, “o-oh no don’t worry about it please! I can get some more!” She said rushing to you and taking the few youd collected, up this close she could see how flushed you were, “oh you poor thing.” She frowned feeling your forehead. You squeezed your eyes shut just wanting the world to swallow you whole, you felt so embarrassed she had to see all that, so ashamed she had to help you, “th-thank you…” you finally managed to squeak out. “Oh dear you’re not well at all are you?” She frowned.
You nodded sadly looking down at your slippers. She smiled and walked back to the stack of grocery bags she had by the door, one now toppled over where she’d hoisted the sack of potato’s out, as she began rummaging for something a moment of clarity struck your brain, “didn’t… you just go shopping yesterday?… what’s all this for?…” you asked immediately feeling nosy for prying. She instantly froze and tensed up, obviously embarrassed by your observation. She suddenly plucked something from a bag and rushed back to you placing it in your hand, “oh n-no reason here take this!” She shouted before running back to her bags and kicking them all into her apartment, “it was nice talking to you! Please do get some rest and drink lots of water!” She called out as she rushed inside.
As she did so you caught a flash of something very big and very green peering closer to the door. You took a step closer to see but she blocked the way, “I-I’m Angela by the way!” She blurted out before slamming the door. You jumped a little as the loud thud made your ears pop, she certainly was an odd one. You stood there in the empty hall, loose potato’s scattered around your feet, the distant sound of your ex’s footsteps echoing further and further away from you danced in your ears… you looked in your hands to see she’d given you a box of cold and flu medicine… you turned and shuffled back into your apartment, as you did a soft and familiar voice sounded from behind you stopping you in your tracks, “y/n?…”
You spun on your heel and felt your heart thud in your chest as you saw your dragon, standing there looking more human than ever, with a small paper bag in hand, “Hanzo!…” you cheered feeling so happy he was back, he hadn’t abandoned you. You took a step forward reaching for him before finally, exhaustion won. You collapsed in the doorway… but before darkness enveloped your mind, instead of the cool wooden floor, you felt a familiar pair of strong arms catch you in their embrace… they felt like home…
…
It was around lunchtime when you came to again. You woke to the smell of charred fish and fragrant rice, and the sound of a deep harmonic voice humming from the kitchen. You opened your eyes and groaned as you sat upright, you were laying on the sofa by the heater, though you don’t recall having it so close to the sliding door. You glanced over to the kitchen to see Hanzo quietly cooking, tail swishing about as he hummed an old tune you’d never heard before and yet strangely found familiar. He looked so at peace here, like your home was… his home.
Hanzo glanced over at you and smiled, “you gave me quite the scare y/n.” He said as he dished up a bowl of whatever he’d been cooking, “I g-gave you a scare? H-how do you think I f-” you choked and winced feeling your throat grow tighter. “Shh no more of that, you’ll strain yourself.” He said as he walked to you with the dish in hand. You watched him as he kneeled down beside you, before you had a chance to further try to speak he suddenly placed a mouthful of the grilled fish into your lips.
You couldn’t help but blush as he fed you, it tasted heavenly and he had the audacity to say your cooking was good in comparison. Now you couldn’t tell if he was telling you the truth or just being polite, he didn’t offer you a chance to pout though, each time you finished chewing he’d give you more. He didn’t speak, he didn’t need to, the two of you simply enjoyed each other’s company In content silence as he doted over you so kindly. “All done?” He suddenly asked as you recoiled a little from the next mouthful. You nodded smiling up at him, he’d have to get used to humans needing smaller portions than him.
He smiled and leaned forward pressing his lips to your forehead, at first you felt your heart rate quicken thinking he was kissing you, but instead he was feeling your temperature, “hm?… Miss Amaris medicines never fail, you’re already getting better.” He hummed. “Miss Amari?…” you mumbled tiredly, “oh the cold tablets angela gave me?” You asked confused. “Hm? These things?” Hanzo blinked as he pulled the box from his pocket, “I found them on the floor after I gave you a dose… I didn’t want to give you one of these because I didn’t know how it’d react to the ingredients she used… they’re… not exactly normal.” He said rubbing his head.
“Miss Amari is… a pharmacist then?” You asked confused. “A what? No she’s an apothecary.” He replied looking equally confused as you. “They’re the same thing Hanzo.” You giggled. His cheeks went a little red in embarrassment, “h-how was I supposed to know! Humans change their languages too often!” He huffed before looking at you and bristling the fur on his tail, “and who is this Angela? Is she the one who left potato’s all over the hall and staircase?… why did I smell that rancid stench again?…” he said growing tense with concern.
You furrowed your brow slightly, “…my ex came back and… threatened me..” you whispered, “Angela’s my next door neighbour… she’s odd but… she’s tougher than she looks apparently. She punched him in the nose and knocked him down the stairs with a sack of potato’s… then she gave me this medicine and took off inside her apartment in a hurry.” You say recounting everything to him you could muster with such a fragile voice. He nodded listening intently to each word before smiling, “oh? Is that so, I’ll need to thank her than for protecting you so valiantly.” He chirped.
“W-Wah?! N-no you can’t Hanzo! She can’t see you! Nobody can! You’re not h-… how’d you even get this medicine?…” you mumbled, “did people see you?…” you frowned. He tilted his head and snapped his fingers, suddenly his horns disappeared along with his tail, “I can surpress them for short periods… but it takes much effort to keep up the illusion…” he sighed. “And Miss Amari is one of the few humans I know of who can see all spirits and not fear them. She makes medicines for both mortal and magical beings. She and her husband have a small store out by the coast.” He said softly, “it’s very cute, and the beach is very pretty. I’d love to go there with you.” He purred as he set the almost empty bowl down on the coffee table.
“she… sounds lovely…” you said distractedly as you looked up at him awestruck by his magic, he looked so… human. You couldn’t resist reaching out your delicate hand and feeling above his head for his horns, and yet there was nothing there. He chuckled and gently took hold of your wrist guiding your hand to his mouth, he pressed a chaste kiss upon your knuckles before pressing your palm against his cheek. You suddenly felt very hot and flushed again, your attention was now solely on him as his piercing golden eyes stared back at yours, “When you’re better, there’s lots of places I want to take you.” He smiled so fondly at you as his caloused thumb gently traced circles on the back of your hand.
“I…I’d like to see what you’ve seen Hanzo.” You whispered as you began to stroke his cheek . He smiled and leaned into your touch, “Keep me… let me look after you and I’ll give you what you desire and more.” He crooned in such a deep and sultry but hushed manner, as if he were in a crowded room and wanted only you to hear him. “W-..will you keep me too?…” you said meekly, your voice so broken and fragile he could almost swear you had a mouse hiding in your throat.
You barely registered how close he’d gotten to your face until you felt his warm breath on your skin, it smelt like jasmine rice and juniper berries oddly enough, it was such a subtle fragrance you were amazed you could smell it over the eucalyptus rub he’d taken the liberty of applying to you. “Then I am yours.” He whispered before uniting his lips with yours. Your eyelids fluttered shut and you moaned softly into the kiss. His smell, his taste, his touch, he was perfect, he was heaven and he was holding you tightly but so gently in his arms it made your heart both ache and sing with want. With need.
He hummed softly loving your taste, it felt right, you felt right, like his heart had found a missing piece he didn’t know was empty. He wanted to press deeper, to go further and to hold you closer with everything he was. But the bitter aftertaste of the medicine still lingering on your tongue made him pull away, you were still unwell. Your reaction though made his heart flutter, you whined and tried to follow his lips as he moved away, he wanted so badly to give into your wishes but he couldn’t. He had to look after you now, “shhh darling, I’m not going anywhere, but you should rest now.” He whispered as he carefully brushed the stray hairs from your face.
It felt like Cupid’s arrow had struck you hard through your heart at his sweet pet name, how could you possibly deny his wishes, “o-okay…” you whispered. He nodded seemingly pleased with your compliance. He gently tucked the blanket around you again before picking up the dish and returning to the kitchen. You watched him curiously as a thought dawned in your mind… you didn’t buy any fish yesterday, “where’d you get the fish?…” you mumbled. His tail curled into the shape of a question mark and he looked back at you like a very proud child, “I said miss amaris shop was by the sea right? I caught them of course.” He grinned.
You blinked before giggling, “well, that explains that th-” you squeaked as your voice cut out again. You folded your arms and pouted, you hated being sick. Hanzo chuckled loving how cute you looked when you were annoyed, he hadn’t felt happiness like this in so long, he finally had a human again, a keeper, someone to look after him and in turn someone for him to protect and adore. Dragons were by nature possessive spirits, but they had very gentle and pure hearts. And he was glad it was you who had stolen his.
…
The rest of the day went by peacefully, you spent most of the afternoon napping only waking up when Hanzo would give you your medicine or water. The dragon himself spent his time tidying your apartment, and cooking one of the few dishes he knew how to make, A simple curry. Though he was worried you might not like it, that it might have too much spice for you, spirits love very strong and flavourful food after all. But it’d help you kick your cold faster than the medicine could on its own.
It was dinner time when Hanzo finally let you get up to stretch, if only so you wouldn’t dribble on yourself though he’d gladly feed you again if he must. He’d begun to dish it up when a knock sounded from the front door. You immediately went to get up but froze in panic seeing Hanzo going to answer it instead, with his tail and horns in plain sight, “HAN-” you tried to scream but your voice faded into a fragile squeak. He glanced back at you confused before grabbing the handle and opening it to reveal… Angela.
She stood there looking at her feet, “I-I’m so sorry if I’m interrupting your evening but I felt so terrible about just leaving you like that when you were so unwell so I thought I’d come by to check on you and I bought you some tea that’s good for colds and-” she continued rambling on, with each word her face got redder and redder either from embarrassment or plain forgetting to breath. Hanzo stood there awkwardly before clearing his throat, “um?..” he mumbled. Angela immediately looked up realising it wasn’t you she was talking to… She spotted Hanzos face, his scales, his horns, his tail… “oh… you have one too?…” she asked before her eyes rolled back and she fainted.
Hanzo scrambled to catch her but he wasn’t fast enough and she hit the ground with a soft thud, “m-ma’am?!” Hanzo choked out as he lifted her off the floor. He jumped a little feeling your soft hand on his arm, “i was worried that’d happen…” you mumbled before looking up at him. “What did she mean by that?… that I have one too?…” you asked confused. Hanzo shrugged not sure how to answer, “perhaps we should let her rest on the couch until she wa-” he was cut off by the sound of Angela’s front door opening… “Angel?…”
You glanced at the door and froze as you saw a long slender green dragon peering out at the pair of you and the unconscious Angela… “Anija?!” He said excitedly staggering forward a little. Hanzo stood there with his mouth agape, “Genji…” he smiled as tears stung his eyes, “I’ve missed you.”

The war is won. Oasis and the Concordat are at peace. Overwatch has been folded up again, this time made into an intelligence arm for Helix, under new - and the UN hopes better - leadership. The Gods are free - largely - to do as they will.
What is Hanzo doing up on the roof now, anyway?

The base of the cave, hanzos home had started to flood, he hurriedly tried to move his things higher into the cave, hoping to escape the pooling water. He shivered heavily, even his silk robes clung to him uncomfortably. He would need to salvage as much as he could, he wouldn't survive the winter that was soon to come if he didn't have supplies. The dragon ached with the cold his drenched skin and hair provided, but he had no time for that. He needed to survive.
Jesse was breathing heavily as the approaching cold bit his face, the werewolf letting out a small sneeze as he bundled up. Winter was approaching soon, and as cold as it was now, Jesse would have to hunt down a lot of supplies to make it through this year. So far, however, he’d found only a few things to take.
As he prepared to head back home and try again another day, he paused and his ears perked up as he heard the sound of rushing water. From...a cave?
More than a bit curious, he followed the sound until he found the cave.
McCree stood until he wasn't alone, until another early riser was on the wall, looking out towards where Deadlock Gorge had been, towards the rising sun. McCree waited, braced for a break in the silence, chatter or questions or anything, but the stranger stood just a little out of comfortable speaking distance in the rising dawn and watched the sunrise. The silence went on unbroken as the Opinicon slowly came to life, the sun broke one golden shining line above the eastern hills, and McCree waited to know what he needed to do. Waited to know what he needed.
Other than Hanzo.
He would look for Hanzo, but he didn't know what to do if he found him.

The Dragon of the North Wind! (McCree x Hanzo)
The tale of the dragons was something of a close guarded secret within the Shimada clan, and Hanzo was not one to tell that secret either. A tale of two warring brothers, two great dragons. The dragon of the North and the dragon of the South. The southern serpent slew his brother, the Dragon of the North falling to the earth and disappearing in fire and smoke. Their reunion was through travelling as a human, healing the South serpent from his agony and pain. The Shimada clan had hidden these great dragons for centuries, the God passed from one heir to the next. Hanzo was the vessel of the Southern Dragon, his agony its own, yet the healing still ongoing through the centuries. Sometimes the creature spoke, the God rumbling inside his mind, scornful and pompous. They were alike, as much as he hated to admit it.
Still, Overwatch was a new organisation, the man never having met anyone but his brother here. Genji was robotic, the cyborg still his brother, yet someone he needed to develop a bond with again. The last time the dragons had been free, he had caused this, slaying his brother after the twisted cause of the clan. The Southern Dragon had screeched, holding his brother protectively as he spewed apologies, and his guts up onto the decking. He could still smell Genji’s blood and insides. Now he was whole again, and Hanzo was not going to let his brother die again, not while the dragon in his heart still roared.
Yet, there were times when the dragon wanted to be free. It was shackled to a human form, but not eternally. Their contract was bound in blood, but Hanzo was still a vessel to the God’s desires. The North Dragon growled in his mind, curling and twisting, upset with his confinement again.
“I have been cooped up for too long. This place. I wish to see it, Hanzo. I will not stray far...I wish to fly.”
“No. Not here.” Hanzo shuddered as the Dragon growled, “HQ is not the place. These agents...They do not know about you. No one knows about this arrangement that we have.” The archer looked at the blue emblazoned tattoo on his arm, running a finger over the dragon’s back before he looked over at the man punching the bag across from him. Jesse was focused on his work out, huffing, sweat slicking his hair as he continued. The cowboy looked over with the staring and smiled, white teeth in his tanned face as he tipped his head. He didn’t have his hat, but he would have tipped it if it had been on his head. Hanzo raised a hand in greeting as he hushed the vicious serpent inside his head.
McCree walked over a moment later, eyeing the foul look on the archer’s face as he approached, gauging if he would have his head bitten off for speaking.
“Hey there sugar lumps, how’re you holdin’ up?” He smiled softly and sat down on the bench next to Hanzo, taking a towel from next to him to wipe at his face.
“I am ‘holding up’ just fine, McCree. Thank you for your concern.” He was cold, still irritated by the dragon screeching at him to let it fly, “I apologise. I fear I am coming down with something.” Hanzo offered before he stood up, grabbing his water bottle and towel as he turned to leave. That didn’t put the cowboy off, he simply stood up and followed the man from the gym.
“McCree. That was not an invitation to follow me.” The archer snarled quietly, the bar in his nose glinting as he turned to look at the man behind him, towel around the back of his neck.
“Sorry sweatpea, I didn’t think you would mind the company. I could help you to Angela’s office if you want?”
Hanzo’s dark eyes flared with blue light, “I do not need your help, cowboy!” He snapped as he stormed down the corridor, lightning crackling down his tattoo, his breath condensing in the air in misty puffs. McCree held up his hands in surrender, letting the sparking dragon warrior go, dark eyes following him with concern. He swore small horns sprouted from Hanzo’s hairline. He hoped he was just dehydrated and shook his head, turning around before he sighed, and set back after the archer.
Hanzo had gotten to his room, his arm flaring with vicious blue electricity, and collapsed against his bedframe, heaving, lips curled, baring white teeth.
“Curse you, creature! Can you not wait?!” He held his abdomen and curled over with a cry of pain, feeling his skin ripple. The teeth in his mouth felt large, growing and increasing in number as his face cracked and shifted slowly into a snout, great whiskers sprouting and whipping violently. The archer held his head as horns erupted from underneath his skin and a tail thrashed into being. He was aware he was howling now, writhing on the floor before he managed to clamp his mouth on something. The object happened to be his own arm, teeth slicing deep into the thin covering of scales as his body shifted and cracked, bones reshaping and growing. Blood spurted against his great, long pointed tongue, as he thrashed and drew the wounds open wider. Hanzo slammed a taloned hand into the floor and bit himself harder as the spines erupted from his spine, covering his back in hard armour, scales covering his body in shimmering deep blue.
He heard his door open and Hanzo whipped his tail wildly, smashing it into the legs of a man. McCree yelped as he hit the floor, robotic hand grabbing at Hanzo’s great body to try and heave himself back up. He spotted the writhing tail and opened his mouth, still sweaty and heaving from the work out he had put himself through.
“Woah there!” McCree pushed his hands against the muscled tail that snapped near his face again, watching Hanzo as his torso twisted and snapped, the archer heaving, spit dripping down his face as it contorted into a muzzle, static hair flowing from his head, into a mane, and down his neck before reappearing on his tail.
“Calm down, pumpkin, its only me!” Jesse held his hands up as the dragon screeched, throat flexing as its teeth snapped near his face. He was still growing, filling the room as he awkwardly pressed against the furniture, snapping at Jesse’s heels as he scampered close to the scaly side of the beast.
“HANZO! IT’S ME!” Jesse hollered, pressing his hands to Hanzo’s flank, soothing the bristled hair on his tail, watching the electricity spark down the spines carefully, “Shhh. Its just me. I’m not going to hurt you.” McCree’s flesh hand smoothed over the muscles with awe before he dared to move up Hanzo’s great body, his hand pressed to the ocean coloured scales as he moved. The beast’s head lowered and Jesse looked into the eyes, seeing the dark eyes, slitted and large, burning with blue power as he reached a hand to touch Hanzo’s flowing whiskers. Hanzo shuddered and McCree grasped the dragon’s mane as the side of Hanzo’s room exploded outwards, his tail and back legs scrambling at the brick to keep himself upright.
“McCree...” He growled as he slipped down the bricks, talons smashing into the rock so he could catch the cowboy in his jaws, holding him gently against his tongue before he stretched his back and shot into the air. They landed away from the base, the ground thundering as they landed. Hanzo stooped his neck, dropping the cowboy carefully onto the floor, the wind rustling his mane as he let Jesse regain his footing.
“Fuck me, sweatpea, I didn’t know you could turn into a dragon as well!” Jesse proclaimed, an angry frown on his face before he watched Hanzo stoop again, his hot, scaly muzzle pressed to the man’s stomach.
“I am sorry, McCree. This is...The God Dragon of the North Wind. I am his vessel, and this is his real body...” Hanzo looked at the man before him, sure that he would scorn him further, his head dipped, ready for the verbal assault that would follow. Instead, he only felt the gentle carress of metal fingers along his cheek.
“Shush now. You can tell me later. First...lets get you somewhere you can...”
“He wishes to fly.”
“Can I hitch a ride then, sugar?”
“...Hold onto my mane, cowboy. I’m not a horse, so it will be a bumpy ride.” The dragon bellowed a great laugh.
“I’m sure I could ride other things...”
“You push your luck, mortal.”
“What?”
“Ignore him. Come.”
