I loved drawing an adorable version of the Hodag for #monstermashmonth The Hodag is from Wisconsin and has a very interesting tie to Paul Bunyan stories. It is described as gruesome and scary but I think it is super cute.

I decided to go further in the past than Sleepy Hollow for today's "Headless Horseman". I instead drew the terrifying inspiration and origin from ancient Irish fae mythology. The Dullahan and the headless horseman are very similar but the Dullahan does not kill you itself. It instead whips your eyes out with a human spine. It does serve. as an omen of death for you or a loved one though. They also usually have their head with them and extra weird is the horse is sometimes headless too! I have seriously gotten obsessed with Irish folklore and I completely blame the PBS show Monstrum for starting it ha
The is by far one of my favorites for #monstermashmonth. I was inspired by the spider at my windowsill that keeps flies from from coming in. Keep doing what you're doing little spider. Party all night at your speakeasy/ jazz club all night for all I care.
Hi! I will be posting yesterday's post today too but first I wanted to show today's prompt "Hell Cat". I love imagining the devil having a fluffy fiery Persian cat that hisses at everything. Sorry for the late post I was very busy working on the Creep it Real challenge that Unreal Engine is hosting. For this piece, I was inspired by the artwork of Theodor Kittelson Art. I love how his trolls blend into nature. They don’t seem scary just mysterious.
So Quiet- #monstermashmonth Originally I was going to make a piece based on the movie A Quiet Place. This may not be scary but for me, it was terrifying as a young child. I am not sure what made me become aware of the concept of death and mortality. I just remember realizing that one day my heart will stop. It was so scary to me that sometimes I couldn't sleep. It was scary to hear my own heartbeat in the silence of the night.
Back to #monstermashmonth with a whimsical Leshi. He is a shape-shifting and immortal forest guardian. His looks vary in description drastically. His personality also varies from gentle guardian to vengeful and tricky. There are so many interpretations of the Leshi that are unique. In general, he represents the power of nature and the forest and how important it is to respect it. I really enjoyed researching the history of the Leshi ( and many other names he is called) in Slavic culture. Let me know if you have heard of the Leshy, Leshi, etc before :)
The Silbón is such an interesting piece of folklore from Colombia and Venezuela. There are multiple stories as to how the Silbón was cursed to walk the earth with a heavy bag of bones. However what I find most haunting about the Silbón is when his whistling sounds close you are actually safe. When his whistling sounds far away that is when you are in danger. He is known to attack people that are good, bad, and occasionally just drunk. I really am happy I was able to learn about the Silbón from PBS's Monstrum. You should really check out that show if you don't know it. PS. Apologies for spelling Silbón incorrectly in my prompt list T.T
