question: why does the general majority think that tumblr creators are only those who create graphics, gifs, edits etc of that ilk? what about the writers and the poets and all those not visually inclined? what about the rest of us?

I think Nesta has Borderline Personality Disorder? Rage, depression, impulsivity (specifically coping by unhealthy means such as drugs and sex), emotions always existing at an extreme or being totally numb, unable to keep stable relationship. The only symptom she doesn’t really present is extreme fear of either real or imagined abandonment.

I don’t know enough about it to say! My one undergrad psych class and viewings of Dr. Phil are not enough to make me comfortable in my diagnostic skills lol.

I would say that maybe her emotions aren’t as extreme as they seem; it’s more because she represses the hell out of them. So when she seems calm, she’s not numb, she’s just refusing to like… talk about how she feels. Instead, she lashes out in destructive ways. It just used to be at other people (e.g. in acotar towards Feyre and her father), and now she’s turned it inward. Unfortunately, she’s still really good at lashing out at people who don’t deserve it.

This whole “no one understands the way I feel” has always stood out to me as being pretty immature, and based on the way Nesta handles her emotions, that would fit with her inability to handle what she’s dealing with in a constructive or even slightly healthy way. (Although, it was Feyre who made that observation about Nesta and her feelings, not Nesta herself. So maybe there’s something else going on there.) Nesta sees things, she understands what is going on and how she’s affecting people, but I don’t think she’s able to always care, or stop herself. And now after everything that happened in acowar, she’s lost what little control she had.

Re: abandonment, perhaps that’s partly why she has never had a real relationship? Preventive measures.

(I’m going to reread acofas this week and from what I remember, that’s when the “numbness” starts to come in, which makes it seem more situational? Will report back. I’m sure I’ll have more Nesta thoughts.)

I think if you recognize something in Nesta that gives you comfort in a “hey I feel the same way” way, then feel free to headcanon her however you want!
