Apparently a clay mineral called Montmorillonite played a huge role in the origin of life and I don't know why neither my geosci or bio professors mention it. I've found a few studies about it's uses in the catalysts of protobionts (what eventually became the membranes that hold cells together) and the catalysts of RNA synthesis, you know, genetic material. Plus this clay is super rad and has like a bajillion uses.
