So there's a Captain America comic (#246) that despite having nothing to do with Church History, named several characters after church figures. Look it up for a good "what the frick"

okay, “martin” and “harris” are both fairly normal names, not out of the question some just came to them independently.

but then…this character named joe smith comes on the scene?? that can’t be a coincidence:

also, I guess Joe Smith is originally from an old Lee/Ditko issue of Spider-Man, so my hunch is he isn’t a Mormon allusion but Martin Harris? that’s too much to be a coincidence! I did some digging and found out both the artist and author grew up in Chicago and White Plains NY, respectively, which are both relatively close to church history sites for places back east but there’s nothing that really makes me peg either as Mormon besides “Bingham” being a name I know Mormons have (I’m descended from some of ‘em) and Jerry Bingham eventually going on to paint those kind of Wild Wild West paintings some older Mormons really eat up? but that coincidence feels way too crazy to just be a coincidence.
