Askaid varrey means sea boil. Not a very attractive name for the anemone. This one pictured is the beadlet anemone which I've only ever seen in it's 'boil' or beadlet stage on Port Jack beach. Glonney varrey is one of our favourite things about the beaches on the Island Pronounced gl'onn-uh VAH-ruh. I couldn't find a word for this is any dictionaries, so I've just put the two words together. Glass, and of the sea, 'marrey' usually, but as the word for glass is female it becomes 'varrey' - like with askaid varrey yesterday. Sometimes glass is spelt a bit differently as 'glionney' (Gl'-ee-yon-uh) but I found 'glonney' to be more prevalent.
