Well that's just a
Once when I was young, I went to a Princess-themed Day Camp at a music studio. I greatly enjoyed myself there, but one certain experience changed me forever, and not for the better. I promise this relates to my parents.
One day, the staff allowed us to watch Cinderella. This was one of the first movies I ever watched, you know, besides Despicable Me in Pre-K. I was enjoying it up until a scene where two characters are verbally fighting. One of them gets so angry that his face turns red.
This scene reminded me of the many times my mother would have fits of anger because of the things me and my sister (mostly me because these fits of rage made my sister a perfectionist) had done wrong. One particularly bad incident was when she was angry at us for a reason I can’t even remember, so she swept everything off a coffee table to the ground and told us to pick it up. My dad attempted reasoning with her to no avail.
Anyway, because of this indirect reminder, I became very afraid of most movies, and kept getting told things like “You’re really afraid of the least scary Disney Movie?” and “You know conflict is needed to tell a good story, right?” So I stuck to watching things far below my age level because of this fear that my mother indirectly awakened.
I have a million other stories about why she stinks but this felt like the one that’d interest pretty the most.
This is parental abuse.
A parent should never make you feel afraid of them. And you don’t deserve to be belittled for how your trauma affects your relationship with media.
I cannot prove my headcanons I just feel them. Like “What do you mean Barf Bag and Donut aren’t dating? I genuinely thought that was canon.”
Like, look at this girl here.
Look me dead in the eyes and tell me she doesn’t love pecan waffles with lots of syrup from Waffle House.
