If you’re UK based and love knitting/yarn/rare heritage breeds, there’s a London City Farms Kickstarter out there right run by a sustainable textiles creator now that have pooled together something like 16 rare breeds across the city farms and turned it into a machine and hand knitting yarn. Most of these fleeces were going to waste because, as we all know, fleeces are priced so lowly that it’s usually not worth the cost of the cleaning, processing and industrial spinning. You can buy a skein, cone, or an item made solely from the natural colours that the blended sheep breeds produce.

Some of of the hares I am trying to make myself finish up today. This is about half of my smaller hare box. I also have a giant hare box. None of them are finished. And none of these are the size I was aiming for. She's dry!!

I was not expecting to lose 10% of the weight again in lanolin, I've got 509gm now of spun wool.

I wish I'd weighed it myself at the very start, but I've lost about 50% all up of weight to impurities.

This wool is so nice, y'all. It's soft, fluffy, stretchy. Got the most wonderful neutral smell

I've also finished picking the fleece, so this is the last basket of moorit to spin singles from!

Wash day! My first time cleaning the whole fleece in one go, it's so much faster than doing a handful at a time. This is a beautiful moorit fleece I bought earlier this year. Surprisingly few second cuts, and very low VM :)

3x cold rinses

2x hot soapy wash

1x cold rinse with hose

Could have turned the temperature up for the washes, there's still a bit of lanolin in there, but it's not unpleasant and I like the moisturising feel.

Overall a great success and so so satisfying. But it takes a looooong time to dry even in the sun. Definitely glad I did it over a sunny weekend
