It was times like this where Mora found herself really wishing Nikita understood language.
She didn't know what was going on, just that Nikita had walked into Mora's math class mid-lecture and grabbed Mora by the wrist, pulling her to her feet and out of the room with surprising strength and speed. It wasn't like Mora could ask her what was wrong- Nikita wouldn't be able to understand and even if she could, she wouldn't be able to answer- but something clearly was. Nikita was clearly on some kind of mission, and she looked anxious enough that Mora wasn't going to fight her on whatever she was doing.
With how fast Nikita was moving, it didn't take long for her to drag Mora to their dorm room, push her inside, and close the door behind them before gesturing to the knob, signalling to Mora that she wanted her to lock the door because Nikita couldn't do it herself. As Mora did so, Nikita rushed over to her half of the room, waving for Mora to join her by her bed when Mora turned towards her. The blanket on Nik's bed was positioned weirdly, kind of like she'd been trying to corral something or make some kind of nest, and whatever she wanted Mora to see was in the middle of the ring the blanket made. When Mora joined her, she saw what Nikita was so worried about.
A very, very little kitten. Not even old enough to have its eyes open, mewling quietly. Nikita picked it up and cradled it to her chest ever so gently, rocking it kind of like it was a baby. Her bright blue eyes were nervous as she looked back up at Mora, and the message in them was loud and clear; Help me out here.
"Where did you get-" she cut herself off. Nikita wasn't going to be able to answer. Okay, Nikita had somehow acquired an extremely tiny kitten and had clearly decided to take responsibility for it. Mora couldn't even guess how much Nikita actually knew about cats and kittens, but she was willing to bet Nik had no idea how to care for one. Even if she did, caring for such a tiny kitten by herself was definitely not something Nikita would be able to do. And she seemed to realize that. That was probably why she'd gotten Mora- she recognized that she needed help and she was asking Mora to help her.
The problem was that Mora had absolutely no clue how to care for a kitten this young, and that they weren't allowed to have pets at Auradon Prep. If Godmother found out Nikita was keeping a kitten in their dorm room, gods knew what would happen to it. There was no way they could keep it.
The kitten meowed a little louder than it had been and Nikita looked down at it. Her eyes were soft and loving, a tiny smile on her face, and she gently ran one finger over its white fur. She started to hum a lullaby to it.
There was no way Nikita was going to give up the kitten. She was already in love. If they tried to take it from her, Mora was willing to bet she'd fight them on it as hard as she could and that would probably include doing that thing where she magically ripped out someone's nervous system. Even if they could force her to give it up, she'd be devastated. Mora didn't have the heart to do that to her.
This was a terrible idea.
She grabbed one of Nikita's hands and pressed it to her cheek, nodding her head to tell Nikita that she would help. Nikita lit up, looking genuinely happy and excited for the first time since she'd come to Auradon.
If they were going to pull this off, they would need help. Mora considered her options- who knew enough about kittens to help them but wouldn't try to make them get rid of the kitten? Carlos had a cat on the Isle, right? And Audrey had promised that they could always come to her and she'd do everything in her power to help them. She'd start with them.
Mora pointed to herself, then to the door, then back to the bed, trying to communicate to Nikita that she was going to leave and come back. Nikita nodded, and Mora got up to leave. When she looked back at Nikita, it was to see her laying next to the little nest she'd made for her kitten, petting it ever so gently with a look of complete adoration on her face. She'd never seen Nikita so interested in something.
She needed to find a way to make this work. For Nik's sake.
