I’m almost definitely not the first person to say this but did J. Egbert (I like both John and June so whichever you prefer) essentially cause davekat?? (And terezi too but hang on I’ll get to that)
spoilers for retcon ahead!!
When Terezi gave Egbert the list, she made them tell Past Terezi that she didn’t need [karkat]. And when Egbert figured out that Terezi was talking about Karkat at that point, they told her she probably wanted to avoid Dave too (in a nicer way ofc).
That way, Terezi didn’t really attempt any relationship with them and stuck with Vriska in a pale relationship (maybe more?) and Dave and Karkat were left with more time together. Thus, resulting in their awkward reunion?
Let me know if anyone has said this before and if that made sense please!
