Summary: Exhausted, nearly propping his eyes open with his fingers to stay awake, Joe takes the time to do one last thing: He sends an email overflowing with gratitude to the owner of the food blog who has saved his life these last few weeks. By the time he realises he forgot to sign his name, Joe has already started to drool onto his pillow.
Andy and Quynh’s engagement party is full of fond memories for Joe; it’s where he met the man who might be the love of his life, and thanks to a helpful food blog, it’s the event that finally taught him to cook. Now if only the owner of that blog wasn’t such a jerk...
oh my god. Academia AU Conference fic? it is an actual WIP? please tell me it is so! :)
it is an actual WIP (and yes, to be totally clear, it’s an Explaining Is Losing-academia verse fic) but I need to check in with my humanities peeps about how humanities conferences work before I write any more of it, because I have a lurking suspicion it is Quite Different (all academics are academics, but all disciplines are not similarly disciplined, if you follow me)
have a small snippet of what I have written so far:
He wakes up all the way again at the hotel, because there’s a totally predictable and boringly annoying incident when the hotel clerk decides, apparently at random, that Joe is married to Quỳnh and Andy is married to Nicky, and gets extremely flustered when corrected.
“Wait – ah –”
“Listen,” Andy says, eyeballing him, “We’ve all travelled here from London, we are all extremely tired, and we don’t care. Just give us the room keys.”
Joe loves Andy very much sometimes.
“We’re having dinner with Nile at seven,” Nicky announces, as they head for the lifts. “Do you two want to come?”
“No, I’ve got two students on a later flight and Quỳnh’s meeting up with some collaborators,” Andy says. “But say hi for us.”
The room turns out to have two beds, but one of them is a king; they throw their bags on the twin bed.
“Hedging his bets,” Nicky concludes, surveying the room. “I bet he gave Andy and Quỳnh one of these rooms too.”
Joe has already spreadeagled himself on the larger bed, blissfully happy to be horizontal on a soft surface at last. University conference travel budgets do not pay for premium economy, and his knees are killing him; he swears every time he gets on a plane, the distance between the seats has shrunk. “This is why you should have taken my name. Then we wouldn’t have this problem.”
“Taken your name? When we didn’t even tell anybody we were getting married?”
“The second time around. I’m pretty sure none of them missed that.”
Your attention to microscopic details is truly outstanding. I'd have never caught the way Joe's chest dips after "that time in Malta" or even his octopus antics during sleep, it's such a blessing to have you in this fandom truly 😭😭🥰
31) Beta or no beta? What do you ask betas to look for?
No beta, I don't strive for perfection in my fics, if I got a beta for everything and took the time to go over their corrections I'd never post half the fics I post now...
Exceptions: if it's for example a gift exchange fic that I want some quality control for, and then I just ask for spelling&grammar check and maybe whether there are repetitive words or sth, everything else just stresses me out
32) Written any drabbles (100 word fics) or other exact wordcount challenges?
Ohhh yes many! Drabbles used to be my fav writing exercise when I started with fanfic because they're so Smol, lately I tend to end up writing more than 100 words even in the smollest first draft, but then I still often try to get it to a pretty wordcount, not by deleting anything but by eg adding another few sentences to an 800sth words long fic so it's 1k exactly! Apart from drabble I also have an ao3 tag for those longer fics: 'not technically a drabble exercise'
I also created the Good Omens 666 Words Collection, and about half of the over 140 works are mine xD

A little snippet from one of the next chapters:
Nicky really didn’t want to know what it was like to wake up in Joe’s arms. Yet somehow, Joe has cuddled up to him in his sleep and wrapped his arms around him, the tip of his nose resting against the back of his neck, his beard tickling the skin below. Nicky didn’t want to know the feeling of Joe’s chest slowly rising and falling against his back, the weight of his thigh where he had thrown a leg over Nicky’s, the warmth and safety his embrace promised.
He didn’t want to know any of it, because now he knows what he’ll never have.
Other things i have in mind and can’t wait to write include a tragically broken promise, an unexpected reunion/meeting and a kiss finally being shared!
12. One-shots or multichapters? - one shots are more convenient but I genuinely always end up loving multichapters so much more!
24. Ever written a translation of your own or someone else's fic? - Nope! I haven’t. this question makes me think about writing my fics in Spanish and... nope, too much work for me lol
A. Ever tried to leave kudos twice? - constantly especially on multichapter fics! every time I really like a new chapter i’m like pleaseee let me leave more kudos!! also It happens pretty often with Your fics!
V. ever use the bookmark instead of the work search? - i literally never bookmark bc i like to live my life in complete chaos apparently lmao
