“Stand up,” he ordered, tapping Sirius’ asscheek lightly as he pushed himself to his feet.  Sirius straightened with a wince and pulled the tie out of his mouth. Remus accepted the spit-covered wad of fabric and eyed their reflections in the mirror as they started to straighten their clothing. Sirius met his eye and grinned. “We look like we’ve been fucking.” Remus sighed dejectedly. “Andromeda is gonna kill me.” “Don’t mention Andy while my dick is hard.” “Well it needs to not be before we go back out, so consider this my help.” “Gee thanks,” Sirius drawled. “Are you sure we don’t have time for blowjobs?” Remus eyed Sirius’ lips wistfully as he re-buttoned his shirt, but he shook his head. “Later. Dora is going somewhere else after this. Probably won’t be home until morning.”

Hmmm who'd the puppy upset already? 🤔 I will never stop posting out of context snippets of the Roomies au (at least not until the whole thing is finished and I have no more snippets to post lol) this has taken over my brain and this entire au and the boys living in it are like my babies. And then there was James.

James, James, James.

He had been there from the start and he’d never left. Regulus could always look across the club, through the chain link fence and into the giant outdoor pool area, to see him walking across the stone with a smile on his face. He always looked happy, like sunshine was radiating out of him. He was warm, kind, funny, dazzling. He was so beautiful, oh his James was beautiful.

How could anyone not love him? How could his mother not like him? Regulus would never quite understand it. Yes, tennis meant everything to him and he’d never give it up. But that boy…that boy meant everything too.

They’re well into their cups when Voldemort finally broaches the topic that drove him here. 

“What if we went back to the old way of doing things?”

Narcissa meets his gaze and while she only delicately tilts her eyebrows at him, he can read how unimpressed she is. “Disregarding how often you attempted to give my son and husband impossible tasks during ‘the old way of doing things,’ and that you disposed of the followers who would be most willing to accept the return to former tactics,” she says with just enough deference, even as her eyebrow condescension intensifies. “What would you gain that you can’t achieve with your current position?”

“Truly, nothing,” he concedes. “Aside from the freedom to murder and torture and ‘disappear’ any political rivals or dissidents as I please.” And a little petty payback to his husband, who… wouldn’t even understand the slight currently. 

She hums. “I can see the appeal, and it’s entirely worth undermining years of work and an almost universal approval rating and support for the legislation you put forward.”

This magnificent bitch. “Narcissa, divorce your husband and run away with me.”

He’s not serious, of course, but Merlin, it would be simpler than dealing with the mess his life has become. And that’s truly saying something, given the epic tantrum Lucius would throw.

“A gracious offer, my Lord,” she replies, dry as a desert, only the slightest slur to her words to belie their third bottle of wine. “But alas, you have no albino peacocks to your name, so I must decline.”

“Hmm. Thwarted again.”

“Besides, I’m half your age, rather than a third of it. One would expect you to find someone younger still, if you intended to elope.”

“Have I mentioned lately that you’re so very fortunate I tolerate your insolence?” he grouses, looking askance at her.

“You are the very picture of beneficence, my Lord,” she says patronisingly.

“Ugh. I don’t know how Lucius puts up with you some days.” Narcissa giggles inelegantly into her wine. “Though, in fairness, I don’t know how you put up with him either.”

“Well, of course you don’t. You picked a ridiculous, bleeding-heart Gryffindor rather than anyone sensible,” she says lightly. “As if anyone else could have gotten through to you.”

It was hard to neatly quantify Shisui’s feelings on the whole affair, but if he had to try it would probably go something like this:

The first and most obvious bullet point was that Shisui loved Itachi, and had for a long time. He loved the way his lashes cast delicate shadows across his cheeks in the afternoon sun. He loved the way he leaned his weight against Shisui after a particularly rigorous sparring session, boneless and completely at ease. He loved the sound of his voice, the subtle changes in pitch that indicated tone, how it raised a note when he was amused, how it lowered and slowed when he was drowsy, drifting in and out of sleep. He loved the gentle line of his shoulders, the curve of his spine, the way he looked delicate to the point of seeming fragile but was strong enough to hold his own against some of the most powerful shinobi in the world.

So Shisui loved Itachi, but the thing was that he also loved him in the normal way, the way a best friend should—his sense of humor, dry and cutting and so bizarre at times that one could miss the joke entirely if they didn’t know him; the faces he made when Shisui teased him and the way he always knew the verbal punches to throw back to make Shisui bark out a laugh; the fact that he knew Shisui better than anyone in the world, that they were so familiar with each other that they could share an entire conversation in one glance, and that bone-deep, lifelong friendship was more important to Shisui than anything. It wasn’t difficult for him, then, to make peace with the fact that Itachi didn’t seem to return his more romantic feelings and wasn’t likely to start any time soon. That was fine.

Life went on. He dated other people. He buried his feelings as best he could, and if his overt acts of affection for his best friend sometimes danced too close to the line between amicable and amorous—well. Itachi never seemed to mind, so why should anyone else?

But then Itachi had kissed him, and things got a lot more complicated.
