“The first Christmas my parents spent together was the one where my dad gave Hayle Felix.”
“Really?”
“How old is he?”
“Felix?”
“Yes!”
“Much too old, I think Hayle has some way to keep him alive.”
“Oh! Hay-Hay, what do you want for Christmas?”
“Hmh… maybe a book, maybe one of those old ones about dragons you talked about?”
“Yes! I can get you one of those books!”
Smiling eagerly already debating where to get a book Hayden might like, maybe even something extra, something for his music or guitar. There was this warehouse with pawned items he'd been checking out full of little treasures that were okay for his wallet, so maybe there he could get Hayden a few treasures to make him smile. Noticing Hayden looking at him.
“I will find you the best of books!”
Covers his mouth the instant he noticed he once again did that chirping sound, hoping Hayden didn’t notice, even though he knew he had to have noticed.
“Let me guess, you chirp when you are happy?”
Noticing the look on Vy’s face and the sudden change in the color he was glowing made him regret the words instantly.
“Aww, I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you feel... Embarrassed? It's cute... Just like when you glow different colors…”
“You think it’s cute?”
“Yeah, I think it's cute, it's a little like when you sing, its melodic and almost like birdsong, yet still with your voice. And that too is cute.“
As he is about to continue, he gets interrupted by a knock at the door and then Hayle looking at them both from the slight opening in the door.
“You boys hungry, Chris just returned with dinner if you want some?”
“Was it Asian today?”
“Yep.”
“Sweet! I’m hungry, how about you Vy?”
“I’m a bit hungry too, I didn’t have any lunch at school.”
As Hayle left, Hayden stretched a bit, sitting himself up properly looking at Vy.
“I did mean it though, you are cute when you chirp, so no need to glow yellow, okay?”
“Okay.”
Makes another small chirp sound, following Hayden down to the dining room, being careful to hold his arm, just in case he needs support, especially down the stairs. As they enter the kitchen Hayden just shakes his head, seeing the amount of food his dad has brought this time.
“You think you are feeding a horde dad?”
“It was hard to choose, besides, I think we’ll be one more than normal.”
“Really?”
“Yep, unless your brother has split into two different people, I’d say we have an extra guest.”
Noticing Vy hiding behind Hayden, he just smiles. To him the fact that he has come down to have dinner with them it a huge step in the right direction already.
“Have you ever had this type of food before Yvreon, or should I call you Vy?”
“No mister Chris. I never have. I ate mostly bread. I know how to make so many types of bread. Normal bread, sweet bread, and when I was lucky cheese bread…”
Stops himself, both from blabbering on about bread, and because he realizes what he said could mean. On top of that, much like Chris had mentioned Rylan and River came into the dining room as well at the same time as Hayle came into the room from the kitchen with something to drink for them all.
“Hey dads, I kinda brought a dinner guest, I hope that is okay? And he just has to call his mom quickly… oh and one of you probably has to talk to her so she doesn’t think he is out doing silly things.”
“River right… and I am pretty sure I am leaving that up to my husband, he is good at soothing nervous people, or dragons.”
“pleasure to meet you both mister Wards, wow... Your dad really is a dragon! Cool!
“What, you didn’t believe me?”
As his gaze falls on Chris, he freezes a little with a sense of familiarity and foreboding, a feeling he knows him, without being able to put his finger on why. Rylan looking at him, wondering what the sudden change in him was about.
“... A pleasure to meet you... Huh... I just need to call my mom real quick.”
Watching River go and call his mom, Rylan listened to the talk about bread, garlic bread, and his dad just chuckling at the comment about him being a dragon. His family was the odd one, but times like this he had to admit he loved it.
