Chimney Han & Kevin Lee / Criminal Minds s03e09 Tabula Rasa
What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind
-William Wordsworth
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. They were going to die. Billie was going to come through the door and Dean was going to have to watch Cas die again, and then Dean was going to die again.
They were supposed to have more time.
They were supposed to sit on a beach – Dean and Cas and Jack and Sam and Eileen.
Fuck, Dean hadn’t even thought it was a possibility. He thought Cas couldn’t feel emotions – not in the same way that humans did.
That Dean did.
Dean thought – he thought Cas knew, that he wasn’t mentioning it in an attempt to save Dean’s feelings, so that nothing had to change. If they acknowledged this thing, then they would have to acknowledge that Cas didn’t – that he couldn’t-.
Everything would need to change, so they ignored it and continued on as though neither of them knew that Dean loved Cas.
The one thing I want is something I know I can’t have.
But he could have it – they could have had it.
It was too late. They were going to die. They were never going to sit on a beach. He would never save Eileen, or watch her and Sammy get married, or have kids. He wouldn’t get to live the life he’d only occasionally allowed himself to imagine – he and Cas in a little house, with a garden for Cas and a room for Jack, maybe a room for Claire… He could open a bar, or maybe be a mechanic, or maybe he could work construction.
Dean had never let himself picture it too clearly, but here Cas was, dangling it in front of his face just in time for it to be snatched away.
The banging on the door was getting louder, the magic keeping Billie out weakening each time her fist hit the door.
“You changed me, Dean,” Cas said, smiling despite the tears in his eyes.
Why was Cas smiling? They were going to die before they had a chance to have the life they deserved. What was there to smile about?
He started running through the last few minutes in his mind – he’d struggled to understand anything Cas had said over the pounding in his ears.
There’s one thing strong enough to stop her.
When I experienced a moment of true happiness, the Empty would be summoned, and it would take me forever.
Horror washed over Dean, because they weren’t going to die. This was so much worse.

Howie Han/Dean Winchester for Bon and Oli's Follower Celebration!
Day 3 Prompt: Crackship
I accidentally wrote past Chimney/Dean in a 911/SPN crossover fic and after some consideration, I've decided that I am correct. Snippet under the cut
Howie had no delusions about Dean – cool, suave, confident Dean, who blew into town once every few months and disappeared again after a night. Dean, who’s only home to speak of was the hottest car Chimney had ever had the good fortune to ride in. Dean, who was a hero. Dean, who spent his life saving people from the things that went bump in the night.
Howie had no idea what made Dean catch his eye in a bar full of beautiful people, but he stopped by every time he went to check on his little brother at school and spent the night making Howie feel more worthwhile than anyone outside of the Lees had in longer than he cared to admit.
Dean wasn’t his boyfriend – nothing even close to that. Dean was maybe the closest thing he had to a best friend, other than Kevin, which was sad because they only ever spoke when Dean would appear in town without warning before disappearing just as suddenly, but honestly Dean was so cool that Howie couldn’t even be upset about it.
