Morganfield’s Offers the Best Ribs and Sticky Bones in Town
Many restaurants in the metro offer their own version of pork ribs on the menu. While most of these are quite good themselves, I have never been to a place that featured different variants of their juicy and tender ribs served in gigantic plate-sized portions. I was litterally surrounded by humongous platters of ribs everywhere, and the only thing I could possibly do was to, well, eat all of them. That is what you will probably encounter when you visit Morganfield’s.
Morganfield’s is located at the second floor veranda of the newly opened Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City. The Home of Sticky Bones opened late last year and has received rave reviews about its specialty pork ribs so I was really excited to try it out myself. It was my first time to go inside Uptown Mall, which is just a few steps from The Palace Pool Club, and while there are not yet many establishments open there, Morganfield’s alone is one good reason to troop to this more secluded side of Bonifacio Global City.
The restaurant exudes an American Midwest vibe with its wood panel walls and furniture but Morganfield’s is actually a Malaysian franchise which was brought to the country by a group of first time restauranteurs. We have them to thank for bringing into the country what can really be called the best ribs in town.
The bright and spacious ambiance at Moranfield’s makes it quite comfortable and enjoyable to share a big meal with family and friends. Even if there are not so many things to do yet at Uptown Mall, expect Morganfield’s to be packed especially during the weekends as hungry foodies continue to crave for their juicy and tender ribs.
The Hungry Kat was invited to sample several of their most popular dishes and it was fortunate that I had come well prepared with my appetite because we were definitely going to need it that afternoon.
Look at their cute and matching his and hers Oink! Oink! Mugs which you can actually buy and take home for P250 each.
Morganfield’s has a variety of beverages including cocktails, wines, juices, and chilled blended coolers like the Berry Easy (P195) which is blended with black grapes, blackberries and strawberries. I liked the refreshing Mango and Lime Lassi (P195) which has mango puree, yoghurt and freshly squeezed lime blended together with ice.
One of the owners of Morganfield’s Philippines, who is actually an uncle of KTG founder Spanky Enriquez, gladly hosted our small group of friends to an exciting pork-filled extravaganza.
Our first appetizer alone had us raving and wanting more. The Bacon Wrapped Meat Balls (P295) had us seeing double the pork as these deep-fried pork meatballs are further wrapped in bacon! The combination is just explosive and I am sure everyone on the table with be trying to get a second piece, and a third. I recommend that you get two orders of this.
Another amazing appetizer is the Pork Sausage Platter (P465) filled with four juicy grilled homemade pork sausages that incudes Spicy Devil, Smoky Bandit, Herby Hog and Cheesy Cheese. I’m not sure which is which, but I was impressed with the juiciness and overall flavorful taste of these sausages. They are served with coleslaw and homemade garlic aioli.
It’s not all pork at Morganfield’s as they also have a few salad dishes for those looking for a healthier alternative. The Sesame Shrimp Salad (P395) is a mixed salad with peeled oranges, apples, tomatoes, sesame seeds, spring onions, red chilies and blanched juicy shrimps served with oriental sesame dressing. It looks good, but let’s just say that I was more focused on the other dishes.
Morganfield’s has a different take on the pork chop with their Pork Ham Chops (P595). These succulent pork loin ham chops are grilled and drizzled with their house gravy and cranberry sauce then served with red skin mashed potatoes and garden veggies. The cranberry sauce is quite unique and it gives a sweet and savory combination to the ham chops.
The great thing about Morganfield’s is its family-friendly atmosphere where you can bring even the little ones. They even offer a Kids Eat Free promo where children 7 years and below get to eat for free on weekends and holidays with a minimum purchase of P2,000 per table.
Kids will have a great time at Morganfield’s because the restaurant makes sure they are happy and occupied. Balloons are provided for them to play with as well as children’s books to read while waiting for their item from the kid’s menu.
Our little princess had the Chicken Tenders (P175) which had three pieces of thinly cut breaded chicken breasts deep fried and served with honey mustard and crispy fries or mashed potatoes. I wouldn’t mind having this for myself.
But the main attraction at Morganfield’s is definitely their pork ribs! It was finally time for me to try what everyone says is the best ribs in town. At the heart of Morganfield's is its signature dish called Sticky Bones – a truly authentic, old-fashioned, prime pork ribs slow-cooked and smoked in coal and hickory wood to tender mouthwatering perfection, then basted with the sticky sweet and sour tomato-based sauce from where it gets its name.
Our first target was the Jack Daniels Glazed Iberico Baby Back Ribs (P950). WOW! These baby back ribs were just so unbelievably juicy and tender with fall-off-the-bone goodness.
The black Spanish Iberian pig is one of the most premium pork in the world so you are getting the highest quality pork ribs you can have. This award winning recipe is glazed with Jack Daniels which gives it a deep smokey flavor. It is also served with crispy onion rings and coleslaw to complete this wonderful dish.
Next, we had the Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs (P1,595) which has the spicy flavors of black pepper. This is also served with red skin mashed potatoes and garden veggies. Just look at the size of this rack, it can probably feed a table of four. Morganfield’s serves the biggest portions of ribs I have ever seen and that is why everyone will be happy eating here.
Just as I thought that I had seen their biggest serving, out comes this gigantic Sharing Platter which can feed the entire family or baranggay. They will also lend you these cute Dining Bibs to wear so you do not get your shirt dirty while feasting on your prime ribs. The Dining Bibs can also be brought home for P200.
The Carnivore (P2995) is one of Morganfield’s Sharing Platters which comes with a full slab of Hickory BBQ Spare Ribs, Tequilla Spiked Chicken, grilled Spicy Devil sausage, grilled Herby Hog sausage, garden salad, grilled corn on the cob, corn bread and crispy french fries. That is one big platter.
For The Carnivore, you can also choose to have the Garlicky BBQ Spare Ribs instead which I like better with its more flavorful garlic ribs. It really doesn’t matter too much which ribs you will get because they are all delicious.
For desserts, we had the Volcanic Chocolate Lava Cake (P245) which is a moist and warm chocolate cake filled with rich chocolate cream and served with premium vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. This was another heavenly treat with warm chocolate oozing from inside.
The Bread Pudding (P195) is also a good dessert as it is served with premium vanilla ice cream and a special whiskey sauce. There’s now a very good reason to go to Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City with the opening of Morganfield’s. All these sumptuous pork ribs and pork dishes will truly make carnivores of everyone. As Gerry a.k.a. Dude For Food says, he didn’t CLAW his way up the food chain to eat vegetables.
