OK time for more dungeons and dragons AU stuff! We’re still going to talk about Ushijima and how he ended up marrying his deity!
(at some point I will end up writing this. It’s just a question of when the time allows me too.)
logically I cannot see him being a religious man before he falls in love with a God. So he probably only became a paladin after meeting you
Before that he was probably like a blacksmith.
(please take a second to imagine Ushijima forging a sword in that very very hot blacksmith shop with sweat dripping down his brow and his arms flexing every time he strikes the blank of the sword)
So essentially I think you probably just pop down to earth to see what was happening down there.
If you wanna throw some chaos into it maybe you revealed your physical form to some acolyte and now you have the acolyte showing you around their little city.
Eventually you decide that you really like the city and you want something to remember it.
(realistically if I was running a dungeons and dragons game this would be the part where I insert a storyline of the city eventually being leveled in the future)
So your acolyte brings you to the best blacksmith in the town to have them craft something special and custom for you. That blacksmith just so happens to be Ushijima.
The second this man lays his eyes on you he thinks you look ethereal. You literally look heavenly. But you put in your request for this item (it could be a sword, a rapier, a hairpin / hair comb even)
So he decides that he was going to put a lot of care into your item. He can’t enchanted or make it magical but he can make it as durable and functional as possible. So he makes it to the best of his abilities
When you finally get this item back from him several weeks later if not longer even you are impressed with the quality of this item. You’re about to just pay for it and then go off to the closest magic user to get it enchanted.
But after you pay for it he asked you out on a date. Something simple, probably to one of the taverns that has the best food in the entire city.
I’m suddenly you go from visiting your acolyte for the first time in thousands of years to coming down to earth to go on dates with the blacksmith every few weeks
And the both of you are just so in love everyone around you can practically feel it
But at some point as a relationship becomes more serious he realizes that he has no idea what you do for a living. Are you one of those adventures that he sees so often come in and out of town? Are you a mail courier? Do you just come in to the city to sell fruit and grains and stuff?
So he asked you and as much as you try to change the subject he just keeps asking you. Soooo eventually you just have to take him back to the large temple in the city dedicated to you and admit to him that you’re actually a God.
He probably doesn’t believe you at first. All of the statues and all iconography of you typically has your face shrouded or obscured in someway and your frame is usually draped in cloth to the point where you can’t really see it.
So for your next date you take him into the middle of this wide open field and prove it to him. Which literally leaves him speechless.
he’s speechless because he’s been dating a God for months without realizing it. There are so many people who worship you who would’ve passed out at even being able to look at you. And he’s just been able to make idle conversation with you and take you out to taverns and to get food and to look at cool magic items.
But despite your God status he still continues to court you for months and months until the two of you finally get married
But married life gets a little hard because some of the other gods in your pantheon are mad that you’ve been playing house on earth and dropping some of your godly duties
So now you guys have to spend longer chunks of time apart
as a result he sets up a little alter to you not only in the house the two of you share but in his blacksmith shop where he will leave some of your favorite candy and cute little love notes as offerings.
His friends point out that he was never a religious man and that it’s weird that he’s suddenly super religious and super dedicated to this sort of random diety. But his response is always that he “had a change of heart”
Eventually his devotion to you as a husband makes it so you can turn him into a Paladin of your domain. So now he has cool new magic tricks that kind of freak him out at first
Because he does not do magic. He is not a mage he’s not a warlock he is a blacksmith. But eventually it’s subs freaking him out and he gets the hang of it and before he uses any of his paladin magic he says a “prayer“ in the form of saying I love you and that he misses you.
