A lot would depend entirely on what the crime was but I am assuming its a particularly nasty one in order to be loathed so much, but to have such a nasty crime on my conscience may well be equally unbearable as the negative public opinion.
Similarly, I may well be quite proud of my heinous acts despite the condemnation and the feeling of injustice at being punished for a crime I didn't commit might well be the worst thing to suffer.
I'll stick to my cowardly ways, have fun on my rampage and get away with it, the public don't know what they are on about anyway......
