Many people get angry when I say "For me a Pokémon doesn't exist until it have appeared in the Anime", but they shouldn't take it so literal, for me the anime is a "second chance" to love the new introduced Pokémon, many of them cause me a first bad impression, because "artworks makes all of them look so violent and emotionless", for example, from Alola thanks to the anime I managed to love Rowlet, Mimikyu and Alolan Raichu, which at the beginning I didn't liked them.

I have to agree. The official art doesn’t always do the Pokemon justice. Sometimes you need to see it in motion, and see the kind of personality it’s meant to have. The anime is really good for that, especially because you often get to see more than one character of the same species. It really does bring the Pokemon to life a bit more. 

Rowlet also didn’t grow on me until the anime. The design doesn’t do much for me but Ash’s Rowlet is just too much of a character to ignore. 

Amie/Refresh also helps me grow to like Pokemon I didn’t care about before. I didn’t like Bounsweet or Igglybuff at all until I played with them. Interacting with Pokemon in any way at all brings you closer, really.

So yeah, there’s nothing wrong with feeling like the anime breathes life into the Pokemon, nothing at all!
