So, I might buy a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 as a project. This is actually at a used car dealer, but I do not think the dealer wants it on their lot because it requires a good amount of work to be road-ready. They’re selling it at a good price, but it also needs a new timing chain and VVT actuator assembly which they weren’t aware of. I expressed I may still be interested despite the problems with the motor if I could get it at a steal. I think the owner of the lot might bite. His car lot is full and he doesn’t want to put any money into the car - in fact, I believe he probably got it for nothing from the auction as part of a deal of purchasing a bunch of other vehicles. It only has 97,000 miles, but it looks like it’s had a rough life. Why would I want it? Because if I can get it for approximately what I’d pay for it in the condition it’s in, I could sink $1,500-$2000 into it (and lots of my time) and still either be able to sell it at a good profit OR, and this is the more likely scenario, keep it and sell my current daily-driver (and still profit, but not as much as if I just sold this one).
I’m a sucker for a good deal. Plus, I think fixing up this somewhat rare Mazda (as they only made it for two years) would be a nice video series to make and do on youtube with my “motorboner” channel. I haven’t done much with motorboner yet, but I think I might.
Do I really need a 6th car? Do I really need another project? No, of course not. I’m pretty sure this kind of stuff is a sickness. Everyone who gets into project cars never has just one... The more you have, the less likely you are to finish any of them, but oh well.
