Concrete Mould Making With The Fabulous Rowan Smith
- Similar to the process of the wax mould except you make no walls and no multiple jackets. It’s all one thing.
- Once you have made your clay mould, you then need to coat the entire mould with a layer of plaster (made the same as the plaster in the previous exercise).
- You make quite a thick layer because the concrete reacts differently to wax.
- Once the plaster mould has cooled down and set, remove the clay from the inside.
- Gently with water and a soft paintbrush.
- Coat the inside of your mould with a thin layer of sunlight liquid. Helps the concrete not stick to the plaster as much once set.
- Now you make the concrete.
- 1 part concrete powder.
- Add water slowly while mixing.
- Mix until the consistence of thick yogurt.
- Make sure to get all the lumps out.
- Poor the concrete mix into the mould.
- Push it in gently and shake, vibrate and wiggle the mould to release any air bubbles that may have been trapped under the concrete mix.
- Make sure that your mould is lying flat while it sets.
- Wrap your mould with the concrete mix in it, into air tight black bag.
- Careful not to let the bag touch the surface of the mix.
- Now wait 2 days before removing the plaster jacket.
- So careful when removing the plaster, especially if you have any fine points.
