PLA Anniversary Week 2026, Day 1: Legend / @pla-anni-week
A painting attributed to Sanqua of the Galaxy Team, depicting the closure of the Space-Time Rift and the end of the Red Sky.
Local legend says that a massive rift in space-time emerged from a stormy cloud, and hung upon Mount Coronet for many long months. This period was marked by unrest, as Pokemon were driven into frenzy, and space and time itself distorted. At one point, the sky itself shattered into red fragments, making day and night indistinguishable. All hope seemed lost for the people of Hisui.
Then, the Hero of Hisui bravely ascended Mount Coronet, wielding a mythical Pokeball blessed by the Legendary Pokemon of the land. The earth trembled and wild Pokemon fled in fright.
Thereafter a great light appeared above the mountain and pierced the fractured heavens. Where that light touched, the unnatural red was burned away, leaving a clear blue sky, without the rift that had been upon the mountain for so long.
The Hero was said to have battled a frenzied form of “Almighty Sinnoh”, which may either refer to the Pokemon now known as Dialga, or to the Pokemon known as Palkia. Historically, the term was used by both the Diamond and Pearl Clans to refer to their own respective venerated deities.
The disappearance of the Space-Time Rift ushered in a new era of stability and prosperity in the Hisui region. This piece is graciously loaned by the Jubilife City Art Gallery.
I wanted to paint something for my absolute favorite Pokemon game, and I love how ominous and foreboding the rift is, and I love how Mount Coronet is central to so much in the game. I will never shut up about how much I love Legends Arceus!
Also, a few close ups under the cut
I had to throw in a Gyarados and Burmy for some pokemon in here
are there any pokemon fans with a special interest in geology or tectonics out there? for nerd reasons, i need to know how Mt. Coronet formed, what its vague characteristics might be, and generally what this implies for the geography of Sinnoh as a whole. thank you!
