On an early morning before the break of dawn, Rei climbs Mount Coronet for a very special occasion.

Rei reached the summit about half an hour before sunrise.
Lord Braviary had taken him most of the way, up to the base of the Stone Portal. Even though there was now a Galaxy Team camp near Moonview Arena, at this hour, there would be no Security Corps to escort him. The peak was shrouded in fog, leaving him to fumble in the dark with the meagre light of the Arc Phone.
But after climbing through the tunnel, he found that he'd emerged above the main layer of cloud, into a vast purple sky. Higher layers of cloud drifted overhead, both overwhelmingly near and impossibly far.
The Temple, or what was left of it, was hushed and reverent in this twilight. A sacred place, destroyed as it was. His footfalls echoed off crumbling pillars, the wind whistling through the ghosts of arches and passageways. It was starkly different from the clamour and frenzy of only a few days ago.
He'd never gotten the chance to properly appreciate the Temple, though he'd always seen it from afar, perched atop the mountain, silhouetted by the storm of the rift. By the time he'd had clearance to reach it, he'd had far more on his mind. There were glimpses of the grandeur it had carried, in the gilding of the pillar bases, the polished gleam of marble, the monumental scale of it all. Even in ruins, that gravitas remained.
Rei turned towards the lightening orange glow of the horizon, and found it perfectly aligned with the main thoroughfare of the Temple. He exhaled, the breath coming out as white puffs in the mountain air, and sent out Togetic.
The little Pokemon chirped as he was released, doing a little loop in the air. Then a cold gust blew, which blew him backwards just a bit, making him shiver and huddle up next to Rei. Despite the chill, the sight made the small tension Rei had felt from being up here dissolve into warmth.
“Look who's excited,” he said, holding out a hand for Togetic to perch on. Togetic landed, wings flapping softly. Together, they turned to look down the entrance of the Temple, past the stairs and the ridge of the mountain. They were alone, above the rest of the world, suspended in a sea of clouds beginning to glow golden from within.
With his free hand, Rei dug through his satchel, and found the object he’d carefully wrapped in cloth. Togetic took to the air once more, letting him uncover what lay within: a gleaming green-and-yellow stone, which sparkled as it caught the first rays of light piercing through the clouds.
Togetic had previously shown some interest in this stone, when Rei had brought it back from a space-time distortion. Based on the other stone-based evolutions they’d studied, Professor Laventon hypothesised that it would catalyse evolution into a rare Pokemon hardly ever seen in the wild, Togekiss. But beyond mild curiosity, Togetic had never shown any desire to evolve, and Rei had let his Pokemon be.
That was, until a few days ago, the morning after calming Palkia’s frenzy. Togetic had led him to his storage box, chirping, insistent, until Rei had found the stone once more.
But Rei hadn’t wanted to use the stone right at that moment. Evolution was something special, a once-or-twice in a lifetime moment for any Pokemon. He hadn’t wanted to do it in the mundane surroundings of his home. Nor had he wanted to do it under observation, as exciting that would’ve been for the Professor. This was just for the two of them, back at the place where everything had ended, and begun anew.
Togetic drifted towards the stone in Rei’s hands, and looked up at him with those same wide eyes that he’d had as a baby Togepi. Rei was struck, then, by love and fondness so overwhelming that he felt it would burst from his chest. Though Togetic had changed—had grown—he was still the same, at heart. And, he would continue to be.
“Go on, then,” Rei managed, the words coming out with a faint wobble. Togetic floated up, nuzzling at Rei’s face one last time, then dropped down to touch the stone with two small hands, joined, for a moment, with Rei’s.
The glow of it was like the sun. Rei never looked away.
Blinking away the afterimages, the changes came into focus. His Pokemon was much larger, far too large to perch lightly on Rei as he had before. His wings had elongated, golden light shining through the outstretched feathers. Togetic—Togekiss looked back at him, and let out a musical trill.
The sound was more melodic, and resonant, warmer in tone than it had been before, but he could hear his Pokemon, all the same.
Rei found himself with his hands buried in Togekiss’ soft down, choking back a wave of emotion. He was beautiful. He was all grown up, now.
With the sky brilliantly aflame, and the Temple now bathed in the rays of the rising sun, it was as if Togekiss’ evolution had brought light to the whole world.

“Not so long ago, scant few had ever sighted this Pokémon. But times have been changing. I am certain that Togekiss finally chose to reveal itself, because peace now once more reigns over the land.”
- Professor Laventon’s Hisuian Pokédex

Yes, I did in fact evolve Togetic to Togekiss atop the Temple of Sinnoh on my playthrough, after the end credits rolled. I had already planned to make Togetic’s evolution thematic, and it all came together beautifully in-game.
It was a joy to finally come back to this scene with this prompt and do it justice. Rei and his most special beloved bird…
And some of the original screenshots from that occasion <3
Have you any interest in the new Legends game? I hope you haven't been spoiled if you're interested, but have not gotten to it yet.
Well. It only took me HALF A YEAR to answer. Oh my.
So I preordered the game, started my first play through the day it was released and spent a few very nice evenings playing and enjoying it more than I expected. And then my life decided it’s time for me to experience one of the worst nightmares of every illustrator. I badly injured my dominant hand while being right in the middle of an unusually big and time sensitive project. It was quite an interesting period of my life which I would love to forget to be honest.
But! Now my wrist is mostly healed, the scary big project is done and I was able to relax for a while and finish PLZA.
Here’s a few things I was able to draw back in October.
I was ecstatic when I realized I can add a mega alpha houndoom to my team. Sadly I’m no longer able to draw this pokemon normally because once upon a time I decided it would be fun to draw a houndoom based on a borzoi. Borzoidoom is inescapable now.
(I know for sure I’m not the only one who had this reaction)
Also my personal little challenge was to finish the game without fainting once (I’m laughably bad at this new battle system). This is how I failed it:
I eventually caught this gengar, nicknamed him Laventon and added him to my team as a punishment. Despite already having a ghost type.
Words can’t describe my love for mega froslass.
Currently my team looks like this. I won’t accept any criticism, it’s perfect.
(don’t worry about Alakazam he’s fine he’s used to be around ghost and dark types i promise)
And finally. When it comes to the legends games there’s a Volo tax that has to be paid.
Now I’m going to finish the dlc and beat Rayquaza with my perfectly balanced team.
not a request, but just wanted to let you know that i miss seeing your art, hope you are doing well in these difficult times
Hello and thank you so much my friend!
I didn’t intend to be gone for so long and I definitely didn’t expect that my absence would be noticed at all. The only reason I stopped posting was a wrist injury which really messed up my work for a while. But now I’m back, my dominant hand is still attached to my body and I can use it to draw silly requests just like I used to! In the meantime please have this Mew doodle 💛
The number of times I have seen Kamado's whole-hearted repentance go over people's heads (partly due to cultural differences, as it feels like a very Japanese portrayal of apology) has been infuriating!
(referring to this part in Mizumi’s journey)
Kamado is a complex character.
I think it’s completely understandable if people choose to not forgive the dude - he betrayed our trust & treated us as a criminal after everything we did (saying he would “clap [us] in chains” if it weren’t for all the things we did for Hisui & Jubilife Village). For some, even this apology would not be enough, & I can respect that.
It’s heavily hinted that Kamado (& Beni) were originally from Johto, (maybe in that town near the Lake of Rage?) where he witnessed firsthand the destructive power of Pokémon, which had to be traumatizing (especially if it’s as it’s hinted, that his wife died that way). Additionally, he is a leader, & has to consider the safety of his people (which is why I actually found it harder to forgive the villagers for instantly turning on us without that reason).
This doesn’t excuse what he did; just adds context. Like, it wasn’t done out of malice. If anything, I think he was scared & made a rash judgement.
I did have the thought that part of my response was cultural differences (even though I wasn’t really raised with a lot of Japanese culture; I taught most of it to myself). I also just hold genuine apologies very highly - if people in my life formally apologized, took full accountability for what they did, & did whatever they could to make it up to me…that’d be enough (though it doesn’t happen often lol).
TLDR: I (& Mizumi) forgave Kamado because his apology was enough, but understand if it isn’t for others. 🩵
im so wildly in love with your legends art its so cute!! if cyllene and laventon have a son, would that make cyrus and leon/hop distant cousins
…I didn’t know Leon and Hop are Laventon’s descendants oh my gosh. But I’m bad at this whole guess-the-descendant game ( it took me YEARS to figure out that Melli can’t be related to James and/or Jessie from team rocket).
ANYWAY this newfound knowledge brought me an immense amount of joy because in my mind something like this is now absolutely possible:
This is so stupid it’s canon to me now. Thank you my dear friend for making my whole day better.
slight legends za spoilers but the fact that it just cleared up the most asked question about legends arceus in a matter of a few text boxes is so undeniably funny
also im aware that the protagonist of arceus is implied to be the player character from dppt but i like the idea of the npc player having their own little adventure
hi! I wanted to ask—how do you think a reunion btwn Rei, Barry, and Dawn would go?
HI ANON thanks for waiting for me i appreciate you 😭 im so glad you asked cus i have so many ideas about my silly reinterpretation (rei interpretation) but i never talk about it lmao… anyway
much needed context first! and i do want to draw this all at some point but man ive no time or energy 🥲
i imagine rei, as much as he wants to go home, is really torn about it. he LOVES hisui, its home to him too! eventually, through all the hesitation, he makes up his mind to return. arceus grants him a way back and he steels himself and takes the plunge
but reiturning (rei returning) doesnt turn out like what he imagined. the first person he meets, his mom, doesnt recognize him. surely he isnt that different, right?
he finds barry and dawn and tries to greet them like how he thinks lucas wouldve. his memories have returned by this point, but theyre just that: memories. and his fears are realized… despite his efforts, his best friends dont know who he is either.
rei still has that same heart and soul that made arceus choose him to begin with. but hes grown up, hes changed, mentally and physically, and his very presence doesnt feel the same anymore. the disconnect between sinnohs "lucas" and hisuis "rei" is too large, even if he didnt realize it until now.
once they register this "stranger" as their lucas, barry and dawn are so happy! but does the person they missed even exist anymore? can rei fit into that lucas shaped hole he left behind? does he even want to? a lot of emotions to grapple with here for our dear rei. and he wonders if he made the right choice to return to sinnoh
so thats how the reiunion (rei reunion) will go! 😇 honestly i had so many more rei puns scattered throughout but i removed them lol
rei is the epitome of "despite everything, its still you". hell settle into sinnoh in time, as himself. but that road will be harder that he anticipated.
im about to post the comic i drew to accompany this ask, i hope you enjoy it anon. yes, you. thank you for indulging me 🙇♂️
