Happy New Year!
I was trying to take a picture of this peacock who had moulted his showy tail feathers when I noticed the even more dramatic show of Sorbus rehderiana (mountain ash) berries at the back of the border! This small tree is originally from China where it is found in forest margins and thickets. It can have fruits that are pinkish white to crimson, here it was fruiting well at the Royal Botanic Garden Kew, London.

Mining bee on European mountain ash. For a week out of the year this is a superb tree for the bees to visit. Come September, migrating birds such as waxwings and thrushes reap the benefits with heaps and heaps of bright orange berries. Hooray for bees. ~~~~~~~Andrena sp./Sorbus aucuparia/USA,WA,Tenino/2018-05-09~~~~~<<< #andrena #mountainash #rowantree #wildbee #pollinators
