OH i almost forgot. I need to tell everyone. I saw gay mouse sex today!

I was walking by another lab's mouse rack and noticed a little guy right at eye level vigorously humping another mouse (smooshed up against the water nozzle). watched for a bit because it was sorta funny and because in the midafternoon it's rare and interesting to catch mice doing anything other than sleeping (and because I have a neurosis where when I see animals having sex I worry about if the one being mounted looks like it's enjoying itself). and something looked strange about what the mouse on top was doing -- like, there's no way that angle would achieve vaginal penetration. for some reason it occurred to me to check the descriptive label on the cage. not a breeding cage! four males! gay mouse sex!

had a stress dream last night that I had bought rats at work without my boss's permission (we do not work with rats)(we do not have space for rats)(I am not trained to handle rats)

the basic idea ("let's see if our genetic model will work in rats as well as mice") was sound but the planning and execution were terrible. I got bitten.
