you're an old fisherman and you're sitting on the docks of ancient corinth in the 8th century bc. it's midnight and you're preparing for an early start the next morning, untangling your fishing nets and sharpening your harpoons. you think you're the only one on the beach, and rightfully so at this hour, until you see a dark figure making its way down the dock in the far distance. the dim lamplight doesn't extend far enough from the city's shore to illuminate it and while it looks like a person, an inexplicable dread fills you. its strides are too attractively long. its steps too uniform.
