Cool wind sifted through air, ruffling the mass of hair atop Icarus’s head. It swept through the shaggy curls almost like a caress, a kind hand willing to offer the kind of touch he craved but could never find. A soft sigh escaped past parted lips as his fingers strummed absent rhythms across the strings of the well-worn guitar. The faint music mixed with the wind, creating a melancholy sigh that reverberated through his body, goose flesh dimpling along his skin. His trusted companion Denali lay by his side, greying muzzle tilted up to sniff the wind. A wave of sadness crept over Ike as he realized that at some point his one true friend would pass away to rejoin the other lost souls of Earth, leaving him utterly alone. The thought saddened him to the point that his fingers stopped their movement and his head tilted back to look at the cloud covered sky. Rain was in the air, he could smell it, and soon his moments of tortured peace would be forced to end. Not because he minded the rain, but rather his guitar was old and could not handle the beating a steady rain would give it. Gathering his long legs under himself he stood and began heading back towards his rooms at the Institute. He would be thankful when the purchase for his own home finally went through, separating him from most of the others. Ike enjoyed solitude, only seeking attention when is needs arose to a frenzied point that he could no longer ignore, leading him to lure someone to his bed. He had yet to meet someone whom he could tolerate spending any quality time with. The depraved indifference he had learnt as a child taking over whenever someone started to open up to him. He could just not bring himself to care.
Of course, one would not readily know that through the way he chose to interact with others. On the outside, when he went hunting for his next bed companion, a suave charm dripped from him like thick syrup. His smiles were saccharine, lips smirking up in a way that made others swoon for him. But it was his confidence that really sold him. Icarus lavished in the attention of others in moments like that, because he knew he would be rewarded for his efforts by some sweet thing writhing underneath him in bed. His mind cleared of thoughts as he strolled devil-may-care through the halls of the institute, Denali padding faithfully by his side. At some point some ill advised person reached out to pet the aging wolf, earning them a growl and a gnashing of teeth. Ike just laughed, his hand moving to stroke the thick fur atop the wolf’s head. Despite his best efforts, there was a hint of cruelty in his voice as he spoke. “Perhaps, if you are interested in keeping all your limbs, you should step back. I won’t be held responsible for someone else’s idiocy.”
Fawn was in their office getting a jump start on the school year. Their mind moving a mile a minute with things they could do for the coming year. To be truthful they were over summer, they liked teaching and wanted to get back to it as soon as possible. They were possibly hiding from all their friends, as much as they cared about them, they needed their space and their isolation, something they would be lacking if they went through with their claiming of Elijah.
Hearing the growl outside their door drove them to finally leave the room, only catching the tail end of the curly headed male’s words. “ Actually you could be held responsible for someone else idiocy. Read the little rule book, permanent damage is not permitted, and lost of limb counts as permanent, honey.” They chuckled leaning against their door. “ So unless you can grow limbs back or something I would keep the wolf on a tighter leash, or get a sign to hang from it’s neck, don’t pet.”
