To Ivan, to MP

Im tired and sleepy - and naturally out of ideas. Ohh, I sound normal and usual, don’t I? Well, this happens when you’re getting old, and busy!

But then Facebook told me that yesterday it was Ivan’s birthday, and i didn’t wish him because I was.... too tired! Haha!

Happy birthday Ivan. This German fan who absolutely loves Marie and Madonna! And BMW and Labradors!

Now to MP, who has turned 60 today as well! Woahhh! They’re old and experienced. Old wine! Thanks for everything sir! If you weren’t there, probably there would’ve not been any Roxette either!

If there wasn’t T&A, Per would’ve not come up with such amazing songs which are a part of our heartbeats.

You’re the most important guy, he found to become what he is today! The professional the songwriter he is today - he really would’ve not been the Per we know if you weren’t behind his back.

60 must be fun, is it?

Promise that You’ll Never... glömmer bort mej

One Gyllene Tider song which I absolutely adore is “Lova att du aldrig glömmer bort mig” (Promise that you’ll never forget me). It’s from my favourite first era Gyllene a Tider album, “Puls” and it’s just beautiful.

It’s simply Gessle singing initially on a Piano, which is most probably played by MP (or maybe Göran - not sure). MP is behind its composition so I’m assuming it’s him playing the music. And the once the song catches ts melody, the piano gets mixed with a beautiful string arrangement, which isn’t really heard a lot in GT songs.

Per’s vocals sound absolutely honest (and velvety, yes?) - The song mentions a promise (“Lova” means “Promise”), which naturally gives a sincere feel to the title.

“Lova att du aldrig glömmer bort mig” is a song you would want to hear in a very peaceful environment. The hustle bustle around would take away its essence and the melodic hope.

The chorus keeps going “Lova att du aldrig...glömmer bort mej” And ends with a “Jag glömmer aldrig dej” (I won’t forget you).

I mean - OH MY GOD! The song delivery is equally beautiful.

Song of the day! Most definitely a beautiful reminder on the last Sunday of March 2018.

Blondie Baby!

Last night I asked my friend to help me chose between the greatest hits album of “Phil Collins” and “Blondie”.

She told me to go with Blondie.

Did I enjoy listening to Blondie in the morning, in the noon, in the afternoon and in the evening? HELLS YEAH I did!!! High energy and Debbie Harry’s vocals - it was fantastic. Whenever I listen to Blondie, only one thing comes in mind: That’s Gyllene Tider with a woman on lead.

Seriously, the drum pattern is very Micke Syd, there is plenty of organ, the bass sounds elaborated and the riffs have a touch of MP. Blondie is a band which Gyllene Tider fans would absolutely love.

And Gyllene Tider music is basically music mostly written by Per Gessle.

When the song “Atomic” starts - you’ll instantly be reminded of “Spegelboll” or the demo “Jimmys gitarr”.

Then there is “Hangin’ on the telephone” which was covered by Per and Marie as Roxette. There is this obvious connection. Although this one also reminds me a little of “Fru Nordin” for PG’s “En händig man” album. Do you also feel some resemblance?

The first ever Blondie song which I heard was “Maria” - I think it was 1999. I loved it then, I still love it. Brilliant song, brilliant brilliant song. Hear that church bell effect?

I’m only a Greatest hits admirer of Blondie, I think I better listen to some more, yeah?

MP, 59

Finally, I can say it with relief that the latest Taylor Swift album, “Reputation”, is not according to my taste, and hence, I found it to be a bad album. I mean, sure, people may like it, but not me. No, I’ve had enough with the ear worm “Look what you made me do” and I found this particular song cool in front of the rest of the album. I won’t mind keeping it in my iPod too.

“Fearless”, “Speak Now” and “Red” - Good Taylor Swift albums.

“1989” and “Reputation” - Bad Taylor Swift Albums (for people who liked her old style). But I do like “Shake it off” from “1989”, including the video. Makes me wanna dance.

Now, since it’s the Pisces season in the Roxette world. It started with Judith’s birthday, and then yesterday it was Ivan’s birthday, and now today, it’s the birthday of probably the first Roxer ever.

Mr. Mats “MP” Persson.

Happy Birthday Sir!

FYI, his full name is Mats Arne Persson. (I didn’t know that before a minute).

So, commonly known as MP, he has turned 59 today, and still is as awesome when it comes to music making and production. This is the guy who is behind “Listen to your heart”, “Spending my time”, “Perfect Day” and even “Joy of a Toy”. He’s behind many Gyllene Tider songs, including “Lova att du aldrig glömmer bort mig” and “Kom intill mej”. He is also with Per Gessle in writing “Chrissie, hu mår du?” *wink*.

Then his highness and his excellency in the T&A studio in demo making. Roxette, Per Gessle solo and Gyllene Tider - All get to be given a voice and melody in his presence. His advises and his ideas made “Run to you” becomes a beautiful acoustic piece of art, which every Roxette fan appreciates to this day.

If it wasn’t for him, there might’ve never been a Gyllene Tider, and definitely no Roxette. In a very observant way, one can simply call him the push force behind Gessle, and a real support in making Gessle a known name in Swedish music.

Per should write a song about him, or maybe he already did, and we don’t know about it. But well, there is a “Oh Marie” for Marie Dimberg. How about a “MP your man” or something? But yes, his name has been mentioned in the song “Harplinge”. Yes yes.

This man deserves respect. Take off your hats for him. What? You’re not wearing a hat? Then wear one and take it off for him, yes. Good.

Springsteen and the Organ

I can’t believe that December is here. I just can’t believe it. And I’m one of everybody who can’t believe how past this year has gone by.

Glee is this stupid show which I absolutely adore. It’s a guilty pleasure which I openly admit about and I guess it has lost its secretive “guilt” factor. The song covers at times are so so good. It is this show which made me love “Don’t stop believin’” so much.

Anyway, in this show, I heard this song by Bruce Springsteen called “No Surrender” which is a wonderful song. Give it a listen if you haven’t heard it before.

Now, whenever I hear the highlighted organ sound in a song, my thought process only takes me to Gyllene Tider. Honestly, who’s idea was it to keep a band member who can play amazing organ?

Anyway, “No Surrender” is a typical Bruce Springsteen song - energy, lyrics, good time and emotion. And guess what, it has a nice highlighted organ sound. And instantly Göran Fritzon’s organ playing expertise in his Swedish Boy band came in mind:

- really, was it Per or MP to come up with an organ guy?

- Was Per ever impressed with the music of Bruce Springsteen?

How is Everyone?

Christoffer and Helena are gonna be together in April in Malmö celebration the magic of music. It’s sweet, isn’t it?

But what is Per Gessle up to now a days? He is definitely up to something. We all know that, right?

How about Marie? Micke and Marie were to work some more on music, were they not?

As per the expectation, Christoffer was seen editing stuff from Gessle’s “En vacker kväll” summer tour. Halmstad maybe?

How are Pelle and Magnus? And MP, Anders, Göran and MICKE SYD AAAAAAA!!

When is Per gonna make another plan? Or execute that plan for a surprise? He can’t sit idle, we all know that, don’t we?

There wasn’t a lot of hype for “En vacker dag”, in fact at all, not even the John Holm song. Is it on the radio or not even that?

I think that Per May be working a little more with other people then for his own projects now. With Mono Mind and SS12, he’s gonna be learning from the kids of today, won’t he?

Flickorna på TV2 - The Look for Gyllene Tider

I read the Robins report yesterday (finally) published by the oh-so-very-awesome RoxetteBlog. The show was super cool, wasn't it? Per being able to spread laughter with a professional Comedian. I mean come on, he was funny even with a comedian! Natural talent, right?

There were several things in the interview which took my attention, but one of them was Gyllene Tider related which made me realise how my knowledge isn't upto the standard.

Gyllene Tider got famous with their song "Flickorna på TV2".

I-wasn't-aware-of-that! (And that's sad).

It was technically their first single, written by Per and MP, and I'm sure it got its status as a "Hit" for its pop culture local references. Who would not accept 5 handsome boys singing about girls on a local TV channel with an attractive beat?

I'm not that big a fan of that song, but that's OK, as long as it's spreading so many smiles and awesome memories. 1979 and it was a start of a new life to mainly Gessle where he'd "smile and make every girl cry", like Elvis.

So, "Flickorna på TV2" is the song, 10 years older then "The Look", but served the purpose of introducing a pop songwriter who'd one day be the king of pop in his homeland.

Pisces Season - 2016

So the Roxette Pisces season has started off real nicely, giving it a sweet Spring feel, yes yes. Yesterday was Mr. Ivan Kelava's Birthday, the person who I'd call the biggest Marie fan. Mostly seen in sportswear, sneakers and a twinkle in his eyes. Luckily, I've had a chance to meet him in Budapest, and I'm so glad to have met him, and trust me when I say this, he's a real sweetheart. I really hope you had an excellent day Ivan. All the best for the years to come. And do you know, who Ivan shares a birthday with? Yesssss, Mr. George Harrison. Per's 2nd most favourite Beatle after, of course, Mr. Richard Starkey. And guess who else was born 57 years back, on the very same day in the country of Sweden? Mr. Mats "MP" Persson. Sir, we owe you a lot. Probably, if Per didn't meet you in the first place, we might've never had a Gyllene Tider, and never any Roxette. If it wasn't for you, there might not have been "Listen to Your Heart" like it is today. And hey, your efforts in T&A, who can even deny the importance of that, eh? And do you have any idea what an amazing guitarist you are? And how beautifully melodious you make the piano music sound? And how much of a traditional folk touch you add with your accordion skills? Yes MP, you have big fans all around the world. You have inspired many lives, and it was fate that you and Per got together to make magic. Happy Birthday MP, have an amazing one.
