Convinced my parents to watch the other Bennett sister with me. We just finished episode two and both of them are looking at me like I committed a crime
(In context: both of my parents had pride and prejudice as a major part of their lives)

Please tell me that Mr Bennet is just sick and not dead, I felt like there was soooo much more to explore with his character? And Richard E Grant was great!
"My dear, I have two small favours to request. First, that you will allow me the free use of my understanding on the present occasion; and secondly, of my room. I shall be glad to have the library to myself as soon as may be."
Just saw the new casting for pride and prejudice 2026….WHY TF IS MR BENNET HOT 😭😭😭😭😭 and why is he better looking than Mr. Darcy?!?!?!
Like HELLO???? This is the old ass dad….fr it’s just not right like what is going on 😭
While Mr Bennet's outright refusal to support Mrs Bennet in pressuring Elizabeth to accept Mr Collins is a genuinely touching moment, and a lovely example of the bond he shares with Elizabeth, I think there is a danger in praising him too much at the expense of acknowledging his role what led such a situation to arise in the first place.
Mrs Bennet's desperation for such a match to take occur, even at the expense of her daughter's happiness, is unjustifiable but it is completely understandable. If Elizabeth marries Mr Collins, not only is her future secured, but also that of her sisters and her mother. The constant anxiety of the ladies' fate upon Mr Bennet's death would be at an end.
However, this precarious situation–of being a heartbeat away from losing their home at Longbourn–did not occur overnight. It is the result of many years of neglect on Mr and Mrs Bennet's part; of their refusal to take seriously the possibility that their marriage would not produce an heir until it was too late; of wasting money and failing to ensure the girls were properly educated by governesses in order to give them the best chances of making a successful marriage. Both parents are at fault here, but I find it especially damning on Mr Bennet's part that he, as the husband, who thus possesses far more legal and financial agency than his wife, did not care about his daughters enough to sacrifice his own comfort and subsequently exert himself to provide them with a decent future.
As such, I think it would be deeply unfair to allow him to sweep in at the last minute, and claim all the credit for appearing to be a caring father, when it was his laziness which led to such a situation arising in the first place.
