So what do you have down for Slither out of curiosity?
While I’m undecided if Slither began existence as a Nightmare Creature or was previously a Dream Creature that became corrupted (like the Nightmare King), if it’s the latter I imagine he originated from the Beast Realm.
Despite how snake-like he is and the fact that he’s a Nightmare Creature, he presents himself as an honorable warrior and treats the Grimspawn decently well. That being said his loyalty is pretty fickle, since he has a very “might makes right” mentality so he tends to follow whoever he perceives as the strongest at any given moment, with a bias towards Nightmares of course.
Previously served as the Nightmare King’s initial second in command prior to his first imprisonment and went rogue after, once the Nightmare King was freed he returned to serve as his third in command under the Night Hunter, but went rogue again once the Nightmare King was imprisoned again.
He didn’t ally with the Never Witch because while she is undoubtedly powerful, he sees her powers as being too dependent on outside factors like needing memories for her spells or being very underhanded like her memory wiping.
Abilities include being able to sprout bat-like wings for flight or merging his tail with his legs to create a snake-like lower body for enhanced mobility. His most dangerous ability would be his venom, which has similar properties to the Night Hunter’s Shadow Bolts, so can turn whatever he bites into a Night Terror, with the of the transformation being dependent on the dose of venom. He doesn’t use this ability often though as he thinks it makes fights unfair.
Since it’s widely headcanoned that Oz lost his eye in the Dream World because of his eyepatch, I’ll just go ahead and say Slither was responsible for that.
Even though he took out Oz’s eye and they’re on opposite sides, there’s still… tension between the two of them and dare I say fondness. Slither very much sees Oz as a worthy opponent and treats him with a lot of respect, and Oz honestly kinda likes it to some extent since it’s nice to have someone treat him with respect when 90% of the Night Bureau doesn’t, even if it is the enemy. As such interactions between them can become kinda… charged.
It certainly helps that Slither likes Royce about as much as Oz does, he’s absolutely disgusted by how he treats Oz since in his mind, Oz is infinitely more competent and skilled than Royce could ever be.
He was more or less the leader of the Nightmares during the Dreamer-waking portion of the Final REM trial, and was captured and brought back to Castle Nocturnia afterwards. He managed to escape the Bureau’s clutches during the Never Witch’s attack but still ended up Doom-Domed.
He’s not happy in the slightest about it since as a Nightmare Creature, he can’t leave at all when at least the Bureau has some freedom in the Waking World. This coupled with the fact that he’s essentially surrounded by the enemy means he can’t really do much of anything. Most of the time he’s slinking through the shadows of the Castle and occasionally going off on Royce for his treatment of Oz and the fact that outside of the Never Witch herself he’s arguably most at fault for their current predicament.
Honestly, Oz is probably the single most tolerable part of the situation to Slither and vice versa, so being stuck in Castle Nocturnia together might be what eventually leads them to admitting they might have some level of fondness for each other and could even result in Slither actually turning face.
Unsure about Albert at the moment, either he also has some fondness for Slither (just not to the extent Oz does), or he just does not care about Oz and Slither possibly having the hots for each other at all.
