CALLING ALL SILVERERS AND MONSTER-HUNTERS.
LONDON IS BESIGED BY TERROR BEYOND THE MIRRORS.
YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.
-excerpt from a newspaper owned by one Sargent Talon.
While its not a daddy daughter dance, for a moment, there is an echo of the family broken and reforged by london, as a young woman excitedly drags her chaperone through her first Feast of the Exceptional Rose. Mr. Talon could not be happier.
Special thanks to @allthestarsdevoured for this wonderful piece.
Its interesting how monster hunters externalize their lust for blood. The game outright states that their harpoon is "hungrier than a seeker" which implies either the spear is itself alive in some way, or that hunters externalize their own want to hunt as an outside force. And knowing fallen london, both are equally likely to be true.
I like to imagine Mr. Talon at least thinks of his hunting as separate part of himself. Something not external but not wholly himself. A blending of things maybe? Its an instinct that came from inside but was transformed by outside factors perhaps?
Parabolan Agents are so funny. Sargent Talons refection has escaped and is out leading a war against him. So, as any busy person would, he's instructed a different escaped refection to lead the troops to hunt down the renegade. So we have 3 Sargent Talons running around engaged in parabolan warfare.
A reminder: Mr. Talon is always looking for new contacts, especially with the less then high society groups. This goes double for folks new to the neath. Drop him a note and he'll be happy to assist you. For a small price of course.
Hunting down a rouge law is to a skilled monster hunter, about as conceptually difficult as throwing a knife. It can be dangerous to the untrained, but with time and practice, you can come to develop a good technique and feel for it.
The major obstacle here is that the knife you are trying to throw is blade-less and lacks a handle, but can still cut you just as well. It's going to look ridiculous to anyone not in able to see the work, but a proper hunters right is unseen regardless.
-Excerpt from the journal of Sargent Talon.
Sometimes, you take a walk in along the stolen river. The drownies know to leave you well enough alone. Sometimes your wife, bless her, walks with you. Sometimes, you walk alone.
Things have changed. Your rage has changed. No longer does it burn like an inferno in your chest. It's colder now, like a blade of frozen lacre. Once, you prayed that you'd burn up with your rage. Bright enough that all the stars in the sky would remember see. Now you know better.
There are people here who once you'd burn without a thought. She would have hated that. Andyou didn't care. That was the worst of it, that you knew She'd have hated it, but you didn't care.
All that had mattered was revenge, not what you were becoming. But it did. It did matter what you became. You can only hope when it's all over there will be enough left of Her in you that you won't fear to see yourself in the mirror. You miss her so.
I think the funniest thing about Talon is his morals/lack of morals. Their confusing and full of hypocrisy from the outside and its great. He hates spirifers, but is at worst neutral on devils. He works with both the Constables and The Criminals, and refuses to help one over the other, and refuses to be an informant for either. He's incredibly intelligent and well learned on both matters academic and courtly, and yet thinks high society and the greater academia is at worst useless and harmful, and at best manipulative and stupid. He hates most of the masters, and yet still keeps a relatively good working relationship to them.
All of these have good and logical reasons for being the case, and yet hes very evidently a hypocrite, at least from an outside perspective. Its a fun way to build and write someone.
