SPOILERS FOR END OF ACT 1 AND ACT 2
Asesino de demonios
—No sobrevivió -respondí—. Yo lo maté.
Silencio.
This was supposed to be a warmup sketch last night but it got away from me.
Moony: ...Man, the built-in guide on my tv produces some strange things when it truncates titles
Moony: "Egypt's Greatest Disco"
MrMonster: you didnt know they had a great disco?
non: they attached the disco ball to Sphinx's nose and dance by moonlight
Moony: Is that why it fell off?
Moony: Too many disco balls?
non: yep
non: they got bigger and bigger
MrMonster: now it all makes sense to me
non: poor thing couldn't handle it
non: the night it fell off was the night of Egypt's Greatest (and Last) Disco
Sandy: those were epic parties
"In the trees behind my house I made a pile of crickets, small and black, wings fluttering wildly, and next to them a pile of tiny cricket legs like thin plastic shavings. Without their legs the crickets wiggled helplessly, abdomens curling like stubby fingers, wings flailing against the air and dirt and gravity. They couldn't take off from the ground, it seemed -- they needed legs to leap up and catch the air. It was fascinating to watch. I thought perhaps their leg stumps would bleed, either blood or whatever was inside a cricket, but the joints popped apart like petals from a flower, separate and whole. There were no wounds." - Mr. Monster by Dan Wells.
Mr.Monster
I walked into my room with towel around my waist. I dress up in my usual attire. Black jeans, blue shoes, white v-neck and my trademark blue jacket with a faux fur trim around the hood. I leave my house and put on my hood. I entered the burning world with a blank expression. I light a cigarette and head up to the local bus stop. I sit there wonder what I'm doing with my life. I finish my cigarette and board the bus. On the bus, I look out the window. As I pass by my old middle school, I picture the moments we shared.
"That's where we first met. That's where we first kissed. That's where we broke up. And that's where I tried to commit suicide." I said in my mind. I decided to pull the rope and visit my past.
He starts to climb the fence and finds himself in the school parking lot. The place was empty, the place where children played and laughed is only filled with nothingness. "No one gives a damn if I smoke here." He said to himself as he looked for a place to smoke. He sat down on the staircase leading toward the main building. I lit it and smoked to my heart's content. When suddenly I got a tap on my shoulder. I turn my head and see a young girl with red cheeks and in a white dress.
"Excuse me mister. What are you doing here?" She said as she sat next to me. Her red cheeks were the only color on her. Her pale skin, her dark brown hair and the look in her eyes only complimented her cheeks. She was beautiful and young. I assumed she was about my age or a couple years younger. Her voice sounded familiar, a proper English accent with little to no slang. "You know Mister, smoking kills people. You could die."
"I'm already going to die. I'm just speeding up the process." I said to her coldly. "Want one Princess?" I offered.
"No. I don't want to die yet Mister. And don't call me that Mister. You don't even know me!" She said. Her red cheeks flared with anger.
"Well you're the first girl I met who wears a dress and talks that way." I said as I threw my cigarette on the ground. "You remind me of a princess."
She blushed but quickly caught her composure. "It's a summer dress ever heard of them? I rather wear this than jeans and a shirt. It's relaxing, and it's such a pretty dress. She said as she twirled it And if you go by that logic you look like a monster!" She joked.
"Well why is that?" I asked.
"Because, who would kill an animal for just a little fur?" She said.
"It's faux, Princess." I said coldly.
She laughed at my answer. "Okay, Mr.Monster. Whatever makes you happy. Do you want me to polish your horns or tail?"
"No."
"Don't be so cold, Mr.Monster. So what are you doing here?"
"Smoking." I said. I wanted to avoid her conversation. But for some reason I didn't want to leave. I just sat there frozen by her presence. "How about you?"
She laughed. "Well of course you'd say that. Well I used to go here 10 years ago. Before they closed." She said. Her story was sad, almost heartbreaking. But she said it with not a single tear. Just a smile on her face.
"Oh really, you don't sound that sad." I said to her. Even I felt like tearing up. But I haven't cried in years. Ever since I graduated, I promised my ex I would be a man. And this world taught me one thing. Real men don't cry.
"Because, I know one day It will all come back. That's my dream. So I visit this old school every month. Just to check up on it. Slowly rebuilding it." She said proudly.
"Well Princess, how may I help?" I asked. I was interested in restoring the school. The school created so many memories. Good and bad. But no matter through all the pain, the good memories made it worth it.
"You can help by throwing more cigarettes on the ground." She said sarcastically. "No you can help anyway. Donating, painting, volunteering...." She started to recite an endless list of ways to help. But I didn't pay any attention to all that. I just stared at her beauty. Just by looking at her I knew. She didn't wear make up. She only had one piercing in each ear. And she was childish, indicated by the cartoon kitty as ear rings. "Are you even paying attention Mr.Monster?"
"Huh Yeah." I lied. "Sounds like a date Princess." I said to her. "I'll help you out next week." I said to her. I stood up and looked around. I saw her staring at the top of of the main building. "Is that place special?" I asked her.
"Yeah.. It's special." She said as a teardrop started to form in her eye.
"Want to tell me, Princess?" I asked.
"When they announced they were going to close down the school. My ex-boyfriend sat there all night and cried. Then one day he said, 'I'm going to jump if they close down this school.' Sadly they waited for him to graduate and move away." She said. She looked sad. Depressed from the thought of it. She started to walk away back to the main building. She turned back and looked at me. She wiped her eyes and put her thumbs up. "It's a date, Mr.Monster."
Mr. Monster by Dan Wells
I feel like I was struggling with my dark urges along with the main character. Just do it. Burn the place down, stab him, show these losers what you’re really capable of. I knew what I wanted John to do was the opposite of what he should really do, but I couldn’t help but egg Mr. Monster on just a tad.
