You'd think Father Brown, Ms Fisher, Poirot, etc, would stop getting invited to things, people keep turning up dead around them

She bares her teeth. It’s more of a sneer than a smile. He raises his glass to her from across the bar. He can practically feel her loathing from across the room. They happened to make eye contact and she had no problem with showing her distaste at his presence. It pleases him that his existence bothers her so much. He waits until her back is turned and makes a beeline for her. He weaves through the crowd and silently sidles up behind her. "Miss me?“ he says, leaning to whisper in her ear and letting his breath hum across her bare shoulder. She twists in her seat—a flare of red hair, letting her bar stool spin hard and her knee makes an awful close connection to his groin. His fingers tighten on his glass, but he refrains from flinching. "Like a bullet to the head, Mr. Fisher,” she responds undaunted. He watches her mouth as she talks and then looks into glowering eyes and smiles fearlessly. He knows how much that aggravates her. She tilts her head and narrows her eyes, pursing her lips before also switching into a seamless smile. “So very formal, Mrs. Fisher,” he counters, tilting his glass to her. “It’s ‘Ms.’ now,” a flash of absolute hatred crosses her face even with her flawless smile. He smiles wider. “Not until I sign the divorce papers, it’s not,” he keeps his hands to himself but let’s his eyes wander over her body with such an intent—he’s sure that it feels like he’s touching her. She almost loses the smile this time, but with flawless and sudden laugh she bounces back into the rhythm of their conversation. She reaches up and plays with his neck tie. "Oh, Mr. Fisher,“ she says coyly. She looks up at him beneath long lashes. She suddenly yanks on his tie, and he spills some of his drink in the sudden brutality. "Why don’t you just fuck off and die?” She says in a soft growl. She releases him abruptly and he feels himself teeter for a moment. He roars with laughter before leaning in to whisper once more before departing, "You. First.“
