Hey.... Spindlehorse.... Did you actually remember that you're supposed to have like, two sapphic couples in helluva boss? Oh wait, one's a background gag and the other is most likely pity points for a character that will probably end up revolving around her brother in some sort of "reconciliation".
Btw they completely threw Kendra x Barb OUT THE WINDOW. Ms Mayberry and Martha appeared ONCE in a gag, and they had a GUARANTEED STANDEE.
But I guess that just for being troubled then it means that the sapphic relationship broke up and had no way of working.... Ah what a shame... (10 tons of toxic romanticized yaoi merch is casually existing just because they're the "main couple")
(Actual Barbie Wire x Kendra rant and how it's blatant fanservice in a very lame way incoming)
Anyways I actually understand the concept of not every couple being healthy. And I would've loved some realistically troubled yuri for Barb and Kendra, but just that ONE argument seems to somehow imply or nearly confirm that they've broken up??? Despite having many happy memories? Hello???
I understand that it's meant to portray a falling out, and I'd be completely fine with that... If it didn't have the very high chance of being played as pity points for Barb, and to nudge towards a "reconciling and helping my sister" plotline with Blitz. Like... I'm going off guesses, but it does seem like the narrative wants to frame that specific Blitz thing as if he's in the right? The situation is complicated, and Barb is rightfully mad at Blitz. She has a right to live her life privately and she had a choice to reach out or not, and she did not. She's troubled, and he's equally troubled too. They need time. And blitz spent the entire unhappy campers episode just assaulting and/or threatening everyone who knew Barb, as well as also kind of... Screwing her job over?
Anyways overall it feels like they're gathering pity points to make it seem like Barbie acquiring her own private life and agency outside of familial bonds just... Sucks for some reason? And shoving in a sapphic relationship—a thing fans REALLY crave for due to how bland and underrepresented they are—only to immediately ignore it past that one time and actually push their possible narrative.
What I'm saying is, it's not something that deepens Barbie's character. It's most likely for plot reasons outside of Barbie's character. It's not a real relationship. It's just like Ms Mayberry x Martha, except this one's SOMEHOW the toxic one and is also the only one that doesn't get merch since they SOMEHOW broke up on their debut episode. It just shows that they don't really care and it's really fanservice.
