Being gay but only sexually and emotionally attracted to the same sex, not romantically, sucks because people immediately jump to it being internalized homophobia or compulsory heterosexuality when it isn’t. I didn’t choose to feel this way.
I also think it should be normal to have relationships that aren’t romantic. People constantly say romance is overrated, but the second it’s queer, suddenly it’s either “you need to date them” or “you’re basically straight and taking advantage of people.” Like why is there no space for anything in between?
People are fine when straight people have casual sex, but the moment it’s queer people, it gets moralized, overanalyzed, and turned into something people feel the need to diagnose or make call out posts about.
It’s like queer attraction only gets accepted when it fits a romance centered script. If it doesn’t, people don’t just see it as casual or non romantic; they start assuming something is wrong with you, instead of just letting it be what it is.
Ms Mayberry is so iconic because imagine being cheating on while married, attempting to murder the women he cheated with, ending up in hell and hiring people to go kill that bitch again because she somehow survived, and then realising your a lesbian after ending up in her bed
I have many HR thoughts (especially after finishing both HR and TLG). Sorry Canon is my sandbox and i am building Castles out of crumbs💕
Its pretty Obvious Shane walks a fine line with regard to the way he presents himself. Hes not a fighter, or 'traditionally male' in the expected ways seen in his profession. BUT youve gotta be SO ffr if that translates to him NEVER picking up girls. Yes hes gay. But from what weve seen the performance of heterosexuality is something that is integral to Shanes mask and safety in the league. THEREFORE I PREPOSE AN IDEA😤
Shane would 100% occasionally pick up a girl. He's captain, hes the star/ face of the league, at Minimum he needs that shield to protect him in locker rooms. (idcidcidc what happens in the show/book for this its so unrealistic). If hes seeing Ilya MAYBE 5 times?? a year??? with from what know? Shane does have a decently high libido, i can absolutely see this playing into why dude took nearly 10 years to firmly be like... yeah definitely gay (if he WAS occasionally pulling girls). The comphet went crazy, and the ONLY reference he had for a queer hockey player was Mr. Bisexual himself Ilya Rozanov. A person who genuinely enjoys both. Whereas Shane only enjoys Ilya (in his own words). Definitely could cause some additional confusion.
“But he doesn’t love him. It’s just a bromance; he’s just super obsessed and infatuated with him!”
*Slams Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi in your face along with Harley’s infatuation with Joker and how they made that romantic and literally EVERY fucking straight stalker story that is AUTOMATICALLY ASSUMED AND STATED TO COME WITH AT LEAST ONE SIDED ROMANTIC FEELINGS and then runs*
Okay so I got this comment on a meme where I call Alicent a lesbian.
I go to check their bio, it states “straight cis female.” off to a terrific start!
I do want to address this topic in general, when it comes to Alicent Hightower & Sexuality, and not just specifically to this commenter.
Now, what is compulsive heterosexuality also referred to commonly as comphet?
Comphet recognises that society is heteronormative. That heterosexuality is assumed, taught and pushed upon people. It also recognises the patriarchy, and how specifically women also face significant expectations and pressures, especially heteronormative ones such as being a dutiful wife to a husband and kids.
It is why a lot of queer women struggle with figuring out themselves, including bisexual women! But the experiences lesbians have with comphet is very specific to complete repression and misunderstanding and misidentification of their feelings and wants.
It can be an incredibly difficult thing to recognise and then to unlearn those taught beliefs and behaviours by society. Are lesbians who have taken longer to figure themselves out any less lesbian? No. Are lesbians who have husbands and children and spent most their life believing themselves to be heterosexual because of comphet any less lesbian? No. Comphet is something many, many lesbians experience to this day even in first world countries with access to social media and more.
Let alone in the context of house of the dragon, an extremely patriarchal and medieval setting.
Is biphobia and bi-erasure a real thing? Absolutely! And it is can be especially horrible by some lesbians, and I am ashamed of those people! Shout-out to my bisexual friends, oomfs and people in general, ily guys 🫶
But this is not bi-erasure. This is my headcanon and a very popular headcanon by queer people (including bisexual people and non-lesbians) that is based off of our interpretation and feelings. If you headcanon Alicent as bisexual that is absolutely valid! but you can do so without yourself erasing and acknowledging nuance to situations.
And to the specific commenter: If you genuinely believe yourself to be pro-lgbtq+ as your bio states, then start acting like it. Because right now it seems you’re one of those “allies” who care more about feeling good about themselves by virtue signalling on topics that you clearly have no general or personal understanding on. I do hope I’m wrong, but you are 32 years old. You know better. What you could have done, if you genuinely cared about being pro-lgbtq+, was send an ask. Ask, ‘hey, I’m curious, why do you call Alicent a lesbian? Doesn’t she have a relationship with a man? Isn’t this bi-erasure? I would love to learn.’
And I HOPE if there’s any situation like this again, that next time, if you genuinely care about queer people and our voices, you approach the situation maturely and with willingness to listen and learn.
collecting female characters i used to either hate or relate to but not know why, that i now realize were characters who were probably comphet lesbians as someone who has now realized she is a comphet lesbian is actually so much fun like the reason i would hate them was because i thought they were manipulative (aka too much like me) or they got in the way of a ship i liked, but that’s also like me and my history of liking unattainable people who were clearly not well matched with me or clearly liked someone else.
some of my recent additions to the comphet lesbian squad: galinda (obviously), daisy buchanan, gwen (bbc merlin)
Thinking about fictional men as someone who has thought deeply about comphet and read the lesbian master doc multiple times is rough. These characters are so attractive and if a man like that really existed I’d probably be down, but maybe I just think that because being loved so deeply by someone who doesn’t typically feel that way or being loved in a way that changes the very being of a person is a desirable concept? Am I actually attracted to a man, even if it’s fictional, or just what the character represents?
I’m mostly talking about romantasy and also maybe Astarion from BG3 specifically.
