My thoughts on Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1

⚡Non Spoiler Review⚡:

Absolutely loved it! It is so refreshing when a writer/director not only cares about a character but also UNDERSTANDS the character. The character in question being Carol Danvers. For years, Carol has been misunderstood in story and in writing. It feels so good when someone finally gets her.

There's so much more I want to say. To keep things short, good start by going back to where it all started. Love the art and the supporting characters (literally). I can't wait for more.

I warned you. Anyways, I'm so glad that we are finally acknowledging the elephant in the room that is "The Life of Captain Marvel". Even though it's one of my favorite comics, because it's actually the first Captain Marvel comic I have ever read, I can't ignore where it went wrong. I hope Carol's mom's neglect towards Carol's abuse gets properly addressed along with the many other things that went wrong in that comic. More on this in a future rant.

The fight with the Wrecking Crew was so entertaining! The green/black particles gave me Supreme Intelligence/Vox Supreme vibes and they did confirm that their gear was enhanced using Kree tech, so that makes sense. The real question is, who gave it to them? The line "Just like your mama used to make". I don't think the Wrecking Crew would know anything about Carol's family on their own. I feel like maybe a Kree gave them the enhanced gear and some intel on Carol and her Kree heritage. They were waiting for her, after all. Maybe it was just trash talk. I can't help but think of Carol taking Wrecker's words literally because autism.

Did Rhodey and Carol break up off-panel? I really hope not because they're actually my OTP...I understand a lot of people feel like carolrhodey is a nothingburger relationship, but I feel like their relationship has the potential of being more complexed if the writers actually tried. If only previous writers didn't write Rhodey as a pushover. More on this in a future rant. Jess saying she has "spider-sense" when she doesn't threw me off at first, but it's not the first time Jess has joked about having spider sense. So, I'll give it a pass. I just wish Carol said something along the lines of "you don't have spider-sense" to prevent any confusion, instead of focusing on the golf metaphor. Regardless, more CarolJess.

I have no thoughts on the new villain. I just hope that he's not somehow someway one of Carol's brothers or another long lost family member. Don't ask me why I would think that.

Honestly prefer when Carol Danvers' facial features are drawn with upturned eyes, constantly furrowed black eyebrows, and darker makeup vs round eyes, blonde eyebrows, and lighter makeup
