yay youths of tumblr/the world
I'm glad that instead of unfollowing me, you became endeared to Ziall et al. ❤
~ magic of 1D ~
seriously though. I have so many things tumblr saviour'd but it never even crossed my mind to ts One Direction or Ziall or Zayn or Niall and any combinations of the above.
and ziam??? i mean i'm friends with people who don't feel it, but yeah, we will probably both combust if you like ziam
lolz!! I have complicated feelings about shipping because Ziam is kind of my OTP except "Ziam is real" is kind of my anti-OTP
but! one of the only reasons I got into 1D at all is because someone I follow through Game of Thrones fandom also posts a lot of Ziall and after enduring like 7 months of Ziall adorableness I finally crumbled so I have a soft spot for that. (not fic though. dunno why. just doesn't work for me) but then like 1 week after I started getting obsessive about 1D I suddenly noticed Liam's idiot dorkiness and he shot to the top of my list to be in a three way tie with Zayn and Niall. and Lourry is inescapable so there was that. also as soon as I discovered Liam feels I developed first verse man vs front man anxieties and Lirry helps with that.
then I got ambushed with a shit-ton of Louis-feels because of OT5 and um. Lilo fic. of course Zouis followed soon after because Zayn is smoulder!shippable with everything that moves (and some things that don't) [while Niall is adorable!shippable with everything that moves (and all food and sunshine and ponies and man-laughing-alone-with-salad and some other concepts/inanimate things) which means: Nouis, Narry, Niam, check check check]
I guess the other really important thing is I automatically stan all women associated with 1D on principle (over 1D if necessary) (and ship as appropriate) (even/especially Haylor and Zerrie and Rebecca and Elounor etc etc)
wow what a mess
tl;dr I ship everyone with everyone, Ziam = OTP, 1D/happiness = OTP, OT5 FOR LYFE, 1D girlfriends >>>>>>>> 1D etc etc LETS COMBUST TOGETHER RIGHT NOW OK? OK
Do you know anything about Janoskians? They are sort of a boyband vlog troupe, but I never hear of them other than through "trending topics." Are Janoskians on your radar? Are they cool?
Hi Brendan! (I don't check up on statcounter any more but thanks for letting me know)
I just googled because contrary to the contents of my tumblr, I'm not actually a teenage girl, or particularly in touch with the 2k13 teenage girl vibe (never mind the 2010 teenage girl vibe which was apparently when Janoskians came on to the scene??) In fact, I've p much given up on twitter, so the only way I find out about trending topics is when the other depressed/crazy women in their 20s I follow on tumblr post about it. or on livejournal celebrity gossip communities where the other too-old-for-this-tumblr-and-twitter-shit 1D fangirls in their 20s make fun Larry Stylinson. oh and I think particularly notable ones make their way to fanfiction? (lj is where all the old fogies hang out. sometimes I hate myself less when I'm there, sometimes I hate myself more. I hate myself most all the time on tumblr but it's nice having company)
idk what's your take? Are Janoskians basically the cuddly Australian version of Jackass?
Getting tattoos seems like a grab for an image of toughness / street cred. Is this a natural reaction to being in a boy band? Does Bieber have tattoos yet?
yeah ok but this is one of them:
it says Hi
Hi. Not Hi I'm a tough guy more Hi I'm an idiot toddler child sticking my tongue out like I'm 2 yrs old
also this and thisOOPS!
some other words they have tattooed on them: "zap!" "far away" "chillin" "a" "PINGU" "things I can't" "only time will tell"
so I think it's safe to say tattoos do not represent street cred for One Direction*, but boys scribbling things on themselves and not entirely realizing the difference between tattoos and playing around with a sharpie.
*though Zayn "Bradford Bad Boi" Malik has skulls and a black bandanna half-sleeve so he may be going for that tough thing. but then again, remember that time he actually tried to pull off the look when he was 13 or whenever:
I had a few dodgy haircuts over the years and I shaved my head a few times when I was younger, and also had slits in my eyebrows. I thought I was properly gansta, being into R&B and rap, and I thought they made me look hard. I also went through a phase where I wore jogger bottoms and hoodies all the time. (Dare to Dream, p. 179)
To recap, jogging pants and shaving off bits of your eyebrow = street cred. tattoos = bored boyband members scribbling on themselves.
ask me more questions about One Direction! I like talking about One Direction!
ETA I don't know anything about Biebz! soz!
...I still don't get why Sherlock fandom seem to have their knickers in a bunch over Elementary. Do they *know* how many versions of Sherlock Holmes there are? It seems as if the word "pastiche" was invented for this character. And "Sherlock", sts, is one of the more mediocre versions, even without the embarrassment that is The Blind Banker. Which is not to say you can't like it if you please, but be aware of what it is, and don't throw up a fuss if others use the same idea.
I don't get it either! Do you read/watch a lot of mysteries? I've never read ACD and have only seen a handful of Law and Order/CSI type show episodes, so my usual responses to the twists and deductions in mysteries are usually WOW! AMAZING! WHAT CLEVERNESS! NEVER SAW THAT COMING! I AM ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT AND THIS IS REALLY ENTERTAINING! (no sarcasm intended! I really love mysteries and want to watch/read more because it's a lot of fun.)
But then it's endlessly annoying how often the genius detective character is such a huge asshole and it's presented (esp in Sherlock and to a lesser extent, House) as something the viewer is expected to identify with/be in awe of rather than as a character flaw. It comes up quite a bit in the X-Files too, but Mulder is still /nicer/ and I get the sense that he sees his 'outsideness' as along-side the downtrodden/misled/marginalized rather than pitted against them the way it is in House and Sherlock.
Like, it's a bit gross how people in fandom are really proud of self-identifying/self-aligning with Moffat's Sherlock. I just read a long ass review comparing Elementary to BBC Sherlock and apparently one of the irredeemable faults of Elementary!Sherlock is that he is fallibly human and emotional. What? Instead of being never ever wrong and ... a sociopath? who hates women and anyone who isn't useful or doesn't immediately worship him??? And then the review went on about how magical BBC Sherlock was, sweeping the viewer up in Sherlock's world of adventure. Which. fine whatever. it's a very specific kind of two white boys scamping about boys-will-be-boys style adventure - that, after the Blind Banker episode and reading the synopsis of the IRA bomber plot of the 3rd episode, is like the adventure of gagging myself with a spoon while stabbing a fork in my eye. Whenever N and I discuss Sherlock, he always brings up how obvious it is that there's this whole subtext about how it's really about multicultural nanny state Britain quashing the fun of these two poor misunderstood posh blokes - the plight of white men being so unfairly and unduly oppressed by all these racialized cops and other representatives of government institutions. An ode to the lone genius. It's very Randian, in a way.
All this to say I'm so so happy that Joan isn't a grovelling Martin Freeman stand-in and JLM!Sherlock is a shambly mess. (I still think he's hella manipulative though. Like, it's significant that he apologizes to Joan and admits error, but I definitely read the apologies as Sherlock using calculated contrition to get what he wants. (at least the apology at the opera - less sure about when he's in lock-up))
whoops this turned into a hefty chunk of word vomit.
and I also meant to say at the beginning that I actually really enjoyed A Study in Pink, because yeah! totally awed by twists and turns. if only the cleverness came without the icky bits. =( Someone recommended Hetty Wainthrop Investigates. I'm totally going to get on that.
Have you ever watched Hetty Wainthrop Investigates? I think you'll like it, it's everything BBC Sherlock tries to be and isn't (witty, relevant, interesting), and is sociopolitically conscious to boot. I mean, 60 y/o married woman with a part time job at the post office, teaming up with a poor teenager to solve crime and shame selfish aristocrats. It doesn't get any better than this.
Wow, thanks for the rec! I am always up for shaming selfish aristocrats! In fact, it's kind of pathetic how much I am into sappy underdog/Robin Hood type stories. I've been meaning to mainline Leverage for ages. I'll definitely give this a try too. Thanks again.
