Happy Holidays everyone! Here's Coriander's first Bun-mas (and banana)!
He knows where the treats are stashed...
Today I got to do a temporary tracheostomy and place my first chest tube. This is so much better than studying!... Which I desperately need to do.
I want more lab time and less classroom time.
Also more ‘exotics’.
4 more finals to go this semester!
It’s Been One Hell of a Semester
I have had 2 exams per week for 15 straight weeks and three in my 16th week. It has been a roller coaster ride of frustrations, more studying than I have ever had to do before, laughing with my friends, getting to place my first chest tube, having the support of my work family, and acquiring my first animal in veterinary school.
It was hard, but today I am smiling because I am that much closer to my goal of practicing veterinary medicine. It’s not all good during vet school - sometimes it downright sucks, but we didn’t come to vet school to be students. We came to be doctors.
2 more semester until clinics!
Coriander does not like when my S.O. walks by, but if I’m in between, it’s ok to eat again. Apparently my 100 lb. self seems like enough of a shield against his 300 lb. nemesis.
Comparative anatomy of carpal bones in domestic species. I've been finding this really helpful during my studies. Fun fact: cows have two vestigial toes on each foot. The ones they walk on are actually digits 3 & 4.
Vet-a-Visit is here!
Today is the wonderful day where my college puts on the equivalent of an open house. We invite people to come explore what being a veterinarian is like. We host interactive wildlife, zoo animal, small animal, and large animal exhibits. We demonstrate diagnostic techniques like radiography and ultrasound. We get to show off our CCU, radiology department, behaviorist, and our large animal clinic. Vet-a-Visit is all about teaching the public what veterinary medicine is really about and showing them that this is our passion.
Plus, it is always fun to paint the horses!
Fridays, you never cease to bring me joy.
My morning starts with my significant other retching in the bathroom for an hour. I get to school and the real fun begins.
Rectal palpation of a mare to determine her estrus cycle. She’s no longer a fan of mine and I am fine with that.
My allergies are winning the fight against my antihistamines after being covered in horse. I want to scratch my eyes, but I know they will swell.
Rectal palpation of a cow to see if I could even reach her dorsal intercornual ligament to see if I could grab her uterus and examine her ovaries. Working through a rectum is no joke.
Take off my glove and there’s a tear in it. NO WONDER MY ARM FELT SO WARM THERE. there’s poop on my arm...
I need to call my workplace to get myself put on the schedule for my summer.
Diagnostic Imaging exam later today, so we’re just going to see how this plays out, alright?
