If anyone needs a the MTM Pale Ken BMR Doll and don’t mind purchasing via Amazon, he is currently $13.88.
Today: some compare and contrast in my search for a perfect articulated male body for A’Xu and beyond. Now A’Xu is supposed to be noticeably shorter than WKX. At first I thought I might cut away a bit in the middle of the body to make it shorter, but then I discovered the OB27 body (arrived today (/*-*)/ ). Except! The skin is too dark for A’Xu (it’s worse than it looks), and the paler version of this body is nearly impossible to find without paying a flesh’n’blood arm and a leg T_T. Reminds me of trying to find a pale MTM Barbie. All colors are $20-30, but the pale is $80+ >_< MTM Ken, as you see, is waaay too muscular for the Asian pretty boy aesthetic.
Gal rebodies her dolls - Pullip family edition!
Here you are a quick overview of what my Pullip dolls look like after I get my hands on them. I can share more detail in the future if anyone is interested, do not be shy!
These are the bodies I use:
Pullip has two different options:
Curvy Made-To-Move (MTM) Barbie: nice feel, nice articulation, beautiful proportions. It might be difficult to colour-match, but mine are close enough for my liking. Also makes them a bit taller. I researched a lot before doing it, I am far from the first one. I remember @dolldirt having a wonderful example, I’ll see if I can fish it for a reblog. No one mentioned modifications to the head, but I did have to cut part of the backplate (can be glued back together with the toilet paper trick, so no big deal) besides sanding down the barbie neck. The one in the picture also has Pure Neemo feet, by the way.
Obitsu 26cm with M chest: very standard 'lollipop doll’ look, but with nicer and more natural/human-like features, as well as far better posing. Can use some Pullip/Isul clothing. Optional hands are a fun feature too! Also makes them a bit shorter.
Isul gets Obitsu 24cm with S chest. Same as the other Obitsu for Pullip, really. I like the fact that the Obitsu bodies have more natural-looking (read: not teeeeny tiny) feet, but getting shoes for these girls is going to be a chore.
Taeyang gets Made-To-Move (MTM) Ken, only available so far in the BRM1959 collector line. Same as barbie: nice feel, nice articulation, beautiful shape, difficult to colour-match. I can’t get the neck to look any better, but I got used to it by daily exposure.
Guess who finally finished their project?!?!🥳🥳🥳
Wow this took way too long for me to do. 🤦🏽♀️ Most of it was due to work and family putting it on hold but Zetus Lapetus! I wish the 👑Disney Prince👑 dolls were more compatible with the made to move Ken doll.
tbh it’s still a wip 👩🏽🎨 as the neck isn’t very secure but this is my first major doll modification and I’m a little scared to go any further right now.😣😣😣
I spent a hell of a lot of money buying these so here’s a half assed review:
The petite girl is very cute but her body somehow feels flimsy? For the price I paid, I expected the plastic to feel more substantial but she somehow feels too lightweight; like she’s a bootleg of a MTM in the torso and legs if that makes sense?
Anyway, I’ll ignore that I paid almost $60 for her and that she feels like she should have been $20 purely because I felt inspired to do something the second I had her out of the box and redressed her and did a quick repaint.
I also bought the too pretty blond guy and let me tell you, I’ve got some beef with his outfit but I’ll start with the good points. He’s got hair - well done Mattel, you did it! A male doll with real hair. He’s also got pants that fit, and the waist isn’t stretchy.
But now I’ll talk negatives. The material of the pants, I’m sure, is going to crease and flake within a couple of years, rendering them useless. The top is also shapeless and unnecessarily thick and rigid for what it is. I know they know it was a terrible choice because they actually stuck it to his back with glue dots to keep it in place while packaged.
Note to Mattel: if you need to stick something to your doll to make it look aesthetically appealing, maybe it’s not a good choice and you should go back to the drawing board?
The shirt fabric is also prone to shedding and I found myself wiping the doll down several times after handling it dressed, hence me removing both garments and redressing him in this.
He hasn’t been repainted yet so we’ll see if I feel differently about my investment once that’s done but admittedly, I do feel a little meh about him at the moment.
The Roche-Carmichael family
I really loved the shirt that came with the 60th Anniversary Ken doll but it was designed to be worn open so I added some velcro
