Days 8&9: I took a break to plan, orchestrate, and deconstruct an epic birthday party. Returning to take the next step. The teacher said to make peace with imperfection and keep going.
Day 7. Sanded down the torso and the head, roughly carved out the shoulder joints and eye sockets. I thought making a larger doll would be easier, but now I'm thinking maybe a smaller one would be better 🤔. Well, no turning back now.
Man, those elbow joints look terrifying at this stage 😅
Day 6:
Started shaping the arms and the joints a bit, and patched up the seams on the head and torso. Also decided to go with thinner wire for the hands. Too thin? 🧐🤔
Day 5
Gluing the freshly hollowed out large parts back together. Also beginning some work on the arm joints. I jumped the gun and glued the elbow balls together, but I needed at least one loose for sculpting the arms 😅. Luckily, I made one spare ball just in case. I just knew I'd screw up somewhere along the way 😅. So I shaved it down to the correct size. Also took a look at hand sculpting. Am intimidated, and might possibly need softer wire.
Day 4. Despite it being my birthday, and a very eventful one at that, I still find a bit of time to work on the doll! I sanded the joint balls and hollowed out the large parts.
Day 3?
Paper clay sure takes a long time to dry on its own. The teacher said that us, the inpatient ones, can use a hair dryer if we must. I must. Today I added some more flesh to the torso and the head, and evened out the balls for the joints. Truly a brilliant method the teacher has! You take your dry balls and you get them wet, and then gently squish them through those circle holes until you get to the right size!
Tomorrow your girl is turning 41, so I'm not sure if I'll have time to make some doll progress, what with all the skydiving I'll be doing. (It's indoor skydiving, so a lot less scary than the real thing 😅)
The teacher recommended to start with something simple. After considering a couple dead-end ideas, I decided to go for a half-doll. I've been reading Saga and, conveniently, there is a character in it that only has half a body. That should be simpler than making a full doll, right? Everything has to dry completely before I can continue, so that's it for the day.
If I talk about it here, maybe it will actually go somewhere. I signed up for this thing. Been ever frustrated with limited mobility of the ready-made bodies. I've got the materials already, and now all that's left is to... start doing the steps? Waaaah! The first step is to make a to-scale drawing of your future doll, similar to the example given. I want more joints! In the torso and in the neck and shoulders. Heavens help me, this thing will look like a nightmare made flesh (or airdry clay, in this case).

Today: Someone once told me that it was a breath of fresh air how wholesome my blog is. Um. Does this ruin it? For the "Punishment" prompt of Dracfield week.
Today: In celebration of DracField week 2024, day 2: Church, I decided to put Renny into his priest robes and take a couple shots :)
Today: Actually some weeks ago ^^; I finished Renny's sweater. My mom helped me take a couple pictures in the wild :)
Today: Some more Renfield's ridiculous sweater progress. Will I ever be done with it? It's been like three weeks of working on it a few hours a day?
Still left to do: Elastic on the sleeves and waistband, sewing the parts together, adding some kind of fasteners on the back, carefully tucking away all the ends, streaming it(?).
Today: sharing some progress on the color block sweater I'm making for my Renfield doll. For a long time I couldn't find thin enough yarn in enough colors to make it, and then I had an "aha" moment! Embroidery thread! Comes in any imaginable color and relatively inexpensive for a lil sweater. It is taking a lot more work than I anticipated! I'm trying to not be a perfectionist about this, and it's still tricky. I got sick with COVID last week. I thought I'd knock this out while I'm recovering, but today I'm feeling better and the sweater is still far from done 🥲
It came to my attention that I never posted pictures of my finished Renfield blankie. I ended up adding some extra squares to it, so that it covered the width of my couch. Cat could not resist a photobomb. (Yes, I know, my colors are quite a bit more intense, but give 'em a couple years in the sun!)
I do hope we will see more of your Dracfield fic "To be human"
you will 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Another chapter is in the works, and Glitch and I had a nice long discussion about where the story will go after. We have Ideas! 😄
Today: I finished Drac's pants and realized I haven't posted any WIPs in forever!
I butchered an old sandal for that belt buckle. RIP.
Today: Renfield got a new shirt. This only took three days. I have priorities, ok?
