If the innermost energon Tarn drank was from the “alternate” Tailgate
And if cybercrosis is a (cybertronian equivalent of) blood borne disease...
Will he die of cybercrosis? Or maybe he will die from his own voice because his spark is weaken/altered by the cybercrosis so that it is no longer immune to the voice?
Not to forget that one of the early symptoms of cybercrosis is the lost of transforming ability, it’s no good news for Tarn.
MTMTE#39 reread
So I reread it, the dissonance wasn't that bad second time reading (I love mood whiplashes, but I have some personal biases here to deal with), in fact I love the feeling of surreal humour and someone in the TFW forums described it aptly, naming it the British surreal absurdist humour. I think it’s the manga-ish feel and body gesture tropes that threw me off from detecting that.
See I’ve been a long time manga reader and to me manga, no matter how realistic or serious have this distinct vibe to them that is very different from Western comics. The tropes, use of visual shortcut and atmosphere is different. I’ve delved into Western comics only recently but I could already trace differences between these two. Mediums that have mixed both of these style? successfully are quite a lot of current webcomics, whose artists I’m sure have enjoyed both mediums and mixed the sensibilities comfortably. And that is my deal with this issue. I seem to feel the artist can’t balance or show what is clearly a comic with a British sense of humour with (traditional? stereotypical?) manga visual expression. But that’s me.
And I like fans nicknaming Nickle the DJD’s Winry because that is so accurate.
Overall I love the issue, yeah it’s pretty straightforward and maybe readers who are used to JRo’s character hijinks are restless about it, but I liked that he tried something else. And this issue made me think about a lot of things,artist-wise and content-wise. It lacks the knee-jerk ‘ooooohh I like this issue’, maybe because we are familiar with Jro’s writing, but an interesting look at the highly bureaucratical off-time of the DJDs, something I find exceedingly funny now. Yep we need to torture these defectors, but FIRST the paperwork.
Which reminds me of Charles Stross’s the Laundry Files. Advanced mathematically made formula summoning Lovecraftian entities and we need to stop them before they destroy the world BUT FIRST paperwork. Or else we can’t give you permission to save the world.
Come to think of it the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy also made fun of that.
Is this a British thing?
I’ve got a crazy theory about how Tarn develop his killer voice:
According to Kaon, the nucleon mine was mutated by the exposure to a burst of temporal energy.
And we all know what that energy is:
Guess who else has been directly exposed to that energy:
You got that right. ROLLER.
We’ve already have many hints pointed to Roller=Tarn.
And Tarn said in #39 that he was born with a deadly voice but it was manifest slow.
What if Tarn wasn’t born with that voice after all, he got that voice because of the mutation caused by the time jump radiation?
OMG TESS....i didnt know such an EMOTIONAL guy he is...OOOMG such adorable.... And btw i found that Tarn mentioned Vos at first...so did Tess being upset about vos more...?? Maybe it was a perfect choice to ship them together...and NICKEL IS SUCH AN ANGLE THANK YOU JAMES ROBERTS THE GENIUS!!!!!
I wonder why Skids of all people is shown here.
MTMTE #39 thought:
You can say it’s the second introduction issue for the DJD. But this time, the issue showed their “domestic” side. I can see why people might not like this casual, even a bit dorky side of the DJD, but I like them being more “human” than a bunch of “monsters”. Passion is what drives people doing great or terrible things.
The inclusion of Nickle is an interesting note showing that the DJD is not just about killing, killing, and killing. They are not mindless killing machines. Which made them more intimidating.
Tarn’s reaction is similar to what I assume. He follows a russian term I came across a long time ago "кто служит делу, а не лицам" (it means something like “he who serve the cause, not the individuals” in a twisted way and think he is the Decepticon cause.
Deathsaurus is forming a convenient alliance, I guess. He may be a leader who values his subordinates, he may be acting like one but in fact only want to strengthen his own forces to get rid of Tarn and the DJD later, or he can be both. It’s still too early to tell.
Overall, I think I enjoy the “silly” side of the DJD because it contrast with how cruel and merciless they are toward those who don’t not fit their version of Decepticon cause.
Hayato Sakamoto
Wait, people still bitching about Hayato Sakamoto and still want him blacklisted by IDW?
People say they don’t want him near Transformers because he drew porn in the past, and Transformers is for kids. You do know that Andy Price did the same and HE WORKS ON MY FRICKIN’ LITTLE PONY!
Buncha hypocrites. Specially since the people doing the bitchin’ prolly have faved tons of R34 pics between PharmaXRatchet, OverlordxTrepan or some other weird creepy shit like that! Gay Robots Fucking is fine, but Primus Help Us All if someone draws some titties.
