have you ever thought of exploring a character (like bertie or someone he knows) being trans? i think you've covered gay/bi characters so beautifully i would love to see some trans representation :)
Anna in BITB is trans, and there’s a main character in Ministry 3 who is certainly having some Gender Thoughts - I definitely do want to make sure that the world of my books has trans people in it, because the 1930s/40s definitely did!
What I would say is that, no matter what I write in my books (and I will keep on writing about trans people!) headcanoning any character as trans is both fine by me and up to you … the rule is that if it’s not explicit on the page you get to play with it however you want (and even if it is, you can change it in your own head - that’s the joy of fandom!). Certainly we know that a lot of people in history simply never knew that being trans was an option, or never wanted to admit their transness publicly for fear of the repercussions … so there’s so much space to decide that a certain character is trans and run with it. It’s totally up to you, and I welcome the interpretation!

Ah this is really sweet! It’s going super well - at the moment I’m working through notes from my readers, who are all being very nice about it. So I’m feeling excited to have everyone read it in September!
I haven’t been online much because I am also working on … lots of things that I just can’t share yet. I’m hoping that I will be able to soon, but for now it’s radio silence. But I am very (very very!!!) busy behind the scenes and I will have some lovely things for you in due time!
