The lasting legacy of MUCKs in my life is gentle, sweet grief.

Too many imaginary people silenced because the real people behind them died, or fell away, or moved on.

And I am haunted by some of them, because some of them I'll never have any closure on. Did the lovely lady who wrote Cyrrh and was a nurse right before COVID hit die? Did she just burn out? Did the friend who vanished in a cloud of self-care ever get their life right? Did they win the battle against depression?

The fact is, MUCKs are old, and the userbase average age is hovering about 50 these days. Mortality creeps in. People I knew twenty-five years ago are dying.

There's nice sides to this too, though: Friends I've known since my teens are now telling me about being empty-nesters.

Whoever you are or were, chances are good someone remembers you fondly from back then.
