This is my job but with the after school program. I just have no direction or budget. What types of experiments does he do with the kids, and does he have a lab and lab equipment?
No lab, just a classroom, unfortunately. All his supplies are his own, as the district took all our science supplies at the end of last year and have yet to return them (except I was a sneaker and didn’t turn mine in so I still have them...shhh). He goes by the district pacing guides, so right now in 4th grade we’re studying earth science, and the last time my students went to him they were creating models of earthquakes, volcanos, and landslides and talking about how each one occurs. Just stuff like that. He basically only has to plan one lesson per grade per 8 school days (since there are 7 classes in each grade level he just repeats the lesson 7 times and then gets the 8th day off to plan the next set of lessons), so I guess he just looks at each grade level’s standards and picks one thing to focus on. 45 minutes isn’t that much time so I don’t think he gets to go TOO in-depth with any of the inquiry but the kids love it and it helps supplement what I’m doing with them during my science block.
I lost more points than I had wanted so I still feel kind of shitty, but I did the thing! No more compulsory assessments in the near future! Thanks for the good wishes @swallowing--stones, @this-goes-on, and @muddling-mal ☺️
