Day 6: Favorite Villain Human/Alien
As much as I love Kazuki Kitamura, I have to give this one to Kuronuma / Mugar (Goro Mutsumi) from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) and Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975). Yes, Kuronuma died in the first movie, but let's face it, they're the same guy.
He's the kind of Silver Age supervillain that, for all their "complexity," Hollywood superhero movies sorely lack. This is a guy who wears a largely-silver uniform (and, in ToMG, an intensely goofy helmet), flogs henchmen for their failures, smokes cigars, drinks brandy, concocts overly-elaborate death traps, and is trying to take over the Earth with a giant robot dinosaur. Sure, he's got the requisite tragic backstory - his home planet was swallowed by a black hole - but he doesn't milk it for a drop of sympathy. And in the dubbed versions, he's responsible for some of the best quotes in the whole series:
"I didn't expect the real Godzilla to appear so soon. The Earth people must be astonished."
"Dammit. We'll have to postpone the attack on Tokyo."
"Mechagodzilla, destroy King Seesar while he's sleeping!"
"Go ahead, shoot. You can't kill me anyways, so what do your bullets matter? AHAHAHAHAHA!" *jumps off a cliff*
