GOOSE POST!
HONK! With geese on my mind after playing “Untitled Goose Game” I went searching the collections and I was not disappointed. Here are my favorite bits of L. Frank Baum's “Father Goose's Year Book,” 1907. Baum Collection PS 3503 .A92 F374 1907. Syracuse Special Collections Research Center. (Yes, written by the Wizard of Oz author).
First and most importantly – THIS.
Our frontispiece goose has taken a fierce stance and armed itself with an ammo belt, two pistols, a knife in its beak, and murder in its eyes.
Did I mention the MURDER IN ITS EYES?
Now, let’s take a look at the cover.
After playing as a goose, I have new insight into the life and mind of our fowl friend and I see what’s really happening on this cover: Mayhem. This is a goose with a mission. #HONK
No way Father Goose is keeping that quill. There will be no stories. They end there with GOOSE.
By the way, here’s the full title of this book:
“Father Goose’s Year Book: Quaint Quacks and Feathered Shafts for Mature Children.”
Yikes...that didn’t age well. #Awkward
Well, Kudos to the illustrator Walter J. Enright for adding geese with #MurderEyes to this otherwise kind of boring book.
HONK HONK HONK.
