like legitimately spent years wanting to transition medically but being terrified to because of the horrible stuff I would hear about surgeries that all turned out to be from transphobes masquerading as advocates. It’s insidious

oh, absolutely, and it makes it so hard to make your own medical calls when you can’t decipher actual risks from things made up by transphobes. medical decisions shouldn’t be taken lightly, but they should be well-informed, and trans men, ftms, trans mascs in general, have been done a massive disservice with all of this misinformation. there are obviously risks involved with surgery -- any surgery -- but how are you supposed to know what to believe when people are either a) spreading misinformation about masculinizing medical treatments, or b) completely ignoring the existence of trans mascs in general? invisibility is not a saving grace, it’s fucking deadly, because you’re not seeing who’s slipping into the shadows with us, and you’re not hearing what they’re telling us.

“4. Do you have any nicknames? Sam started our friend group on calling me Brodes. Alisande calls me Brodiedodie. Tiffany calls me Bro. Hallie calls me Bird/Birdie. Past and present students of mine call me Mom/Lab Mom. And some family ones that we’re distinctly not talking about.

14. What does your name mean? I’m sure there’s a more distinct definition but I looked it up for a school project in middle school and it was like ‘a wet ditch’ and I never looked it up again. But it came from the fact that my mom was reading the book The Pride of Miss Jean Brodie when she was pregnant with me and it had a narrative of a Scottish woman who fell in love with an American man which is my parents.

24. Who was your favourite teacher at school and why? Oh easily my kindergarten and first grade teacher. She was this beautiful, tall, Indian woman. She wore the most gorgeous sari and she cared so much about each and every one of us. She was strict because she knew we had potential. I learned to learn from her. She had us do like 3-4 performances a year because learning dances and lines was good for developing a lot of our little skills. One time my mom asked her to change my lines because it was hard for me to say because of my cleft and Mrs. Thomas just LEVELED her frightening stare at my mom and said “Do you think she cannot do it?” and my mom was like no of course not she can do anything she puts her mind to but this is hard and Mrs. Thomas just said “Then let her do it” and I did it!! She was such a foundational mentor in my life and I’m so glad I got her for two years. The proof was really in the pudding because all of her kids grew up to do really well in school and one year, since all her students were doing exceptionally well, she was accused of cheating and giving us the answers. So she said ‘Go pull all my students from (my year) and if they are not the top of their class, I will resign.’ AND WE WERE. Ugh. Amazing teacher. Wonderful woman. She was the perfect balance of stern mentor and incredibly kind woman.

Sleep: what is the most comforting thing at night time for you? 

Music or some kind of white noise like fan or a radio station playing. Ever since I was a little tot i couldn’t sleep in silence. I used to be afraid of noises I would hear at night. 

Visitor: what creature visits your dreams most often?

Fairies, I have had many dreams about fairies. 

Folk: who is the most fantastical being u have known?

@rainraincomethisway is a magical and beautiful piece of art. She is the nicest, most selfless, and supportive person I have ever known it is insane that god decided to place such a priceless being on this sinful world 

Lore: if your life were a tale, how do u expect it would end??

If I had my way, I would be old and whimsical. And I would tell stories to my young grandchildren about fair folk and legends and folk lore. And I would teach them to put milk out for fairies and to leave bread outside during the fall for leprechauns because it is good luck. And i would just tell stories to people I love in my old stone house. Probably in Ireland or the east coast. And I would have my little garden. Life would be simple and happy!
