When Murray and I were in talks to do an all photo issue, I told him this photo he took of Ben is what I wanted on the cover. The Murray issue of Fluke was scrapped by me because I learned there was a book of his photos in the works and I didn’t want to interfere with that in any way. A few years passed and I began working on my 25th anniversary issue in 2016. This issue focused on the early days of the Little Rock punk scene, revolving around the club where Econochrist started out. As it came together, I remembered this photo and realized it would be perfect for the cover. I searched high and low for it. I asked Murray if he had it. Imagine asking someone who has shot literally tens of thousands of photos over the course of at least three decades if he remembers a random pic from the early ‘90s. I searched my archives. Facebook. Flickr. The internet itself! Nothing. I eventually resigned to the fact that I’d gone mad. I even told Murray that I may have dreamt of the image and that it never existed outside of that dream. I honestly thought that must’ve been what happened. Then I accidentally came across it on an old computer. I was so happy to have found it and this may be my favorite cover of any Fluke.
