Its a simple feeling

It’s 3 am, I am sitting in my living room, crocheting in a drowsy stupor , listening to the entirety of gorillaz demon days soundtrack, and it brought about a small memory. I wish to share it with you guys.

It’s fall of 2005, one of my favorite years. I forgot how old i was but it was the week of my birthday when I got my first cd player. I was a fairly avid listener of the radio and mtv’s music sections (they used to actually play music on some of their channels back then.). I was enamored with the gorillaz since i saw their music videos premier on toonami all those years ago. But i didn’t know how to get more of them at the time. Cue 2005 when they released “feel good inc” on mtv one school morning and thats when the enamor became infatuation. In the best way , of course. I had developed the cognitive skills to simply read the song credit to know what the name of the album was.

Demon days.

(And boy did I have some then.)

And with that i found one of my birthday wishes. My aunt packed us up in her car and we roe over to Wally World (Walmart) where I picked out my cd. It was the first time I ever THOUGHT to go get my own cd instead of waiting for the radio to play it or one of my family members to miraculously have the same taste i did that day. I played that cd till the batteries of my cd player died. I played that cd til i memoriezed the whole album. My parents played that cd til everyone got sick of it. Then we played that cd when we missed it. I even played that cd as I did my homework. I kept that Demon days cd with me for years, scratched up and barely recognizable. But it still worked, it’d still play for me no matter how many times it skipped. It lifted my highs and helped my lows. It was the cd that encouraged me to get more of my own cds. I had a whole library thanks to branching with The gorillaz.

We entered a rough patch at home and i lost all my cds, even my demon days one. I lost taht one in a terrible way, really sucked. I could always buy another one, sure, but I didn’t. I’ve put it off for years. It be a while before I indulged in that cd again. Listening to it was a sad comfort in a sense, it would be missed.

Years would go by and th gorillaz would release plastic beach. It was an awesome cd. Then they’d release more. I loved the songs. Never bought the cd. I don’t know why.

I don’t know why I stopped getting cds altogether. But i till listened to music and i still grew my library in a sense. I plan to amend that one day, ive always preferred owning physical things to digital. Anyway, years would still go by before id encounter Demon days again.

I am filled with nostalgia , for a time i miss but have no desire to go back to. If that makes sense? I hope it does. Listening to this cd ,among others, hits different when your frontal cortex is a little more developed. It just amplifies the feelings I had before. Older songs have new meaning. Yet the longing is still there. God i gotta get that cd again.

This band is one of the several things back then that pushed my creativity and love of art. The art the band has is awesome, the characters are interesting, the animation was always eye catching. The songs were often funny but so meaningful. They mixed all sorts of genres even now. And it all works, it all fits. Its all beautiful , even if I liked some songs more than others. Humanz hit different, you know? I am glad they are a thing. I gotta get their art book soon. Im glad i still get to create despite everything feeling like its collapsing around me. I found the disk on YouTube, idk why i didnt think to do that before… no i do, the commercials are annoying. Still I get to listen to my old cd in some fashion. I am filled with this feeling of nostalgic ease.

Tomorrow comes today still makes me cry. But for entirely different reasons. Its a rare listen. “Don’t get lost in heaven” is still something im unraveling. Idk. Old songs and crochet.

This is just some late night thoughts i wanted to share. I’d like to restart my little music library again. Play it as i draw. Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good day/night.
