so this is a song i wrote mid-pandemic just as a kinda like, experiment i guess? it's meant to be in the style of a duet musical number sorta thing. and it's def not me singing both parts... nope.
Why I don’t want my favorite ship to be together (just yet)
I am a Mon-El/kara shipper all the time HOWEVER the writing is done so terribly on the show that it makes me go ??
or in which I spend an entire text post ranting about why I love Karamel (also A++ ship name!) and why the writers have to stop ruining them!
Like they show us that Mon-El has changed (and I do think he has, I like him ok and I will always root for the underdog). I mean it takes awhile for him to get there, because where he comes from everything was totally different (not only having a relationship but being a decent person in general didn’t exist on Daxem) and so he makes a lot of mistakes, but he tries so hard to be better (because he loves Kara so much and adores her selflessness etc..., it’s like a beauty and the beast kind of situation ^_^ ok, maybe not really but it’s just really romantic to me ok?!)
And yeah in the beginning he is a douch, but that’s because he literally doesn’t know any better, and he tries to change only for Kara at first but the longer they are going out, the more he actually changes and wants to change into a good person with morals: he wants to help that homeless guy etc. . . but more recently he refuses to go back to Daxem because he feels he is a better person on earth, despite being rejected by kara. Not because he thinks he can win her back, but because he'd rather stay on earth alone than leave with his family because he knows he needs her to show him how to be a good man and he wants to be a good man, to mean something to the world, that’s literally what he tells his parents, right?
Which is beautiful and would make such a romantic speech he could give to Kara and would be a good reason why he couldn’t tell her who he was, because she would be devestated and he couldn’t bear her being disappointed in him (as well as just showing Kara he is not taking the easy way out, that she has really changed him permanently, that its not just an act to get her to like him, because that is one of the things that bothers Kara I think) but no, instead he just tries to kiss her and pretend saying sorry helps like??? wtf?? Where are the beautiful words you said literally 15 minutes ago??
So Kara and Mon-El break up and I thought (still wanting them to be endgame :P), yeah I can see why this would work, it provides an opportunity for Mon-El to grow as a character and show that he can be good independent of Kara and to built relationships with other people, as well as giving Kara a chance to process him lying to her and when they’re on more even ground they can get back together ^_^ (also angst/slow burn is ALWAYS fun to watch :P)
but NO, instead they kiss in the next episode (without him having to explain anything??) and it’s true love and everything is fine, again like wtf? They make Supergirl less strong and less feministic by making Mon-El her “True Love”. Because he isn’t, or at least not yet, he still has things to learn and the grovelling and heart ache is what makes a love story beautifull and they just skip all that.
Not to mention they keep going on about how Kryptonians aren known for their stubborness and their inability to forgive people easily (which we have seen when she found out James was the Guardian, it took several episodes for her to get over it, and those were her best friends that have always been there for her) so not only is it an insult to Supergirl that she would just give in like that, it is also unrealistic. . .
and lastly, it also sadly degrading for Mon-El’s character as well, I think he has it in him to a real good guy, to make selfless sacrifices for others because Kara inspired him, you know, to go from villain to superhero but they don’t even give him that chance :(
In conclusion: the musical episode made me sad despite bringing my favorite ship back together :/ I mean technically we can still see Mon-El become awesome in the future, but it’s just sad to me that so many people hate him, and I can’t even really blame them :(
